Fundamentals for grow setup - need some advice on number of rooms/tents

I will be allowed to grow up to 15 plants once the Federal Canadian government approves my license. I have about 3 months to figure out the design, get it all setup and functioning and then I can start popping some beans.

I dont have an unlimited budget. Let's call it $1500.

The location will be an insulated garage in Canada. I have access to space in the garage all year around. And the space is about 10x10 with 8 foot ceiling. Lot's of breakers and power. Access to ventilation to the outside. I won't be building rooms in the garage. I'm going with tents.

First question is should I do what I think is called a monocrop and just take 15 plants from seed to bud over and over in one big tent, or is it better to do a perpetual grow with 2 tents and have 7-8 in a smaller veg tent and 7-8 in a flower tent?

I think the two tents is better in some ways. The only down side I see right now is the cost of two tents and their dedicated lighting.

2 tents will be the best. How much room do you have?

One large room for flower and one smaller for vegging. In the vegging room you can use t5 fixtures. They are cheap and dont use alot of power.

Is this all for personal consumption? If so 15 plants that have vegged for a month or so with careful training techniques and then go through flower will keep you for a fair while. You won't really need a perpetual garden then and you could go to one tent

first thing is u must check the wording of the laws
1 15 plants total allowed
2 15 flowering plants allowed with unlimited immature plants
that is huge and can mean your ass or slap on wrist with little fine

now it is 15 mature plants flowering and unlimited baby plants a perpetual grow is good
if it is a total of 15 plants that is it u have to limit the grow to 5 plant cycle ...1 flowering 1 veggie 1 starting

personally since u are in a limited area like that i would advice u to toss out the idea of tents and just covert the area over into a grow room and do auto flowering plants

i say this because auto flowering plants can work off any time frame with any lightwave......it is all in the genetics of the plant u offer it the right food and it will just do it's thing
your government is about to make it legal on all lvls .......so u can order seeds from a seed bank in europe with out fear of breaking the law

it is just a cheaper safer option for u .......instead of spending the money on cheap gear u replace (tents unless secret jardin or gorilla i think they are crap those are the only 2 brands that held up to 5 years those other ones are just going to break the metal is cheap)

spend the money on sealing up the area and getting the Evo controlls set up (heating in winter cooing in summer) spend the rest on some good LED lights Seeds Soil and Feed .....u will see a return for the money u spent with in 70-90 days with auto flowers (plus if u do tents u need 2 of everything in lighting and ducting )

Thanks for the recommendation on autoflowering. I was thinking about that back when I was going to do a small grow box. When I ended up in a larger area with space for multiple tents I didnt think autoflowering. That could make things simpler and less expensive.

I do have an opportunity to pickup 3 secret jardin tents (4x8, 4x4 and 2x2) along with lights, fans, pots, nutes from someone who can't do a grow any more for a great price. I might still buy all the gear and just keep the 8x4 tent and just rotate in a variety of autos for my grow. That sounds like a good idea for me. I could go with DE lights now too and now worry about the height.

As for the law, a local guy helping me with this said its 15 plants that have roots. So I am just going to limit to 15 whether beans popping or a fully ready to harvest flower. Just count 15 and no more.

I you can get tents for cheap, sure.

But you can also buy a few 2x4's, strapping, panda film, self stick zippers and Velcro, black duct tape and white duct tape for a "cheaper-than-new" tent setup.

It is easy to have a full seal this way and it also leaves no holes in the walls.

It is also customizable, and can build shelves at 4' for veg to increase area.

skip the panada film

get IR Blocker ....better light diffusion and it will help lower the heating and cooling energy needs
the IR blocker has 2 sheets of Mylar with a bubble wrap in the middle for a air barrier ......u are looking at 98% heat or cool retention and with this in a garage and u in Canada u are looking at some cold months (if u use the old style HIDS Se or De the IR heat they put out should almost be enough heat for u in the winter might need a tiny space heater if u do not seal off the garage door )

the IR blocker does cost but u will make the cost back in the light reflectivity and the heating/cooling energy cost

just rem if u do it all in one area u really should have a fan or 3 in there make a vortex moving the air around ......this will help on the energy cost of heating and cooling
(i just proved this to another person .......fans moving the hot or cold air around will lower your over all cost .......2 month the bill for this place was 195 bucks in power last month is was 112 bucks) same temps same heating source i just added in 3 fans to move the air in a path
