So, I just read via Forbes that General Hydroponics is owned by Scotts/MiracleGro.

I'll expand my comment. [Disclaimer: I use GH MaxiBloom and pH Down.]

There is an exclusive marketing agreement for Scotts to market Monsanto's RoundUp in North America. Monsanto does not own Scotts (that owns Hawthorne). These are publicly traded companies so there is at least some transparency as to ownership.

I saw that somewhere . Just looked it up . Not all totally clear info but wikipedia scotts page says they acquired general hydro and vermicorcp organics in 2015. Scott s has sold Monsanto products and is or owns mirical grow so i will be moving away from them its to bad as they are a staple in grow shops and where fine product s at a ok price compared to similar products...
Edit; i might switch from gh for sure if they start changing the formula or the source. Scotts could go green but that remains to be seen for now they are just expanding there market the only way that might work this time

It looks like it was a rumor at least 6 years before it was true. Proly cause these big corporations have been looking into the industry for a long time

Hydroponics nutrients manufacturer Botanicare sent out a written message to hydroponics retailers expressing concern about Scotts harming the hydroponics industry by selling nutrients at discount stores.

Botanicare also noted that Scotts Miracle-Gro “has a history of business practices that do not align with the values and beliefs of many who are dedicated and passionately involved in our industry.”

Hydroponics marijuana growers are concerned that Scotts Miracle-Gro and Hawthorne will dilute or otherwise ruin General Hydroponics products.

That would explain the price increase..

Guess I'll have to switch to Advanced or something else.

I never knew GH was anti weed. :-(

AN for the win!

About the only company that will discuss growing pot if you call where GH etc just hangs up on you or kicks you out of gardening expos if you bring up pot. F'n hypocrites.

I've used AN for 15 years and as long as they are in business I'll happily pay a little more for a great product. Their base nutes aren't any more than the others and you don't need most of the supplements they sell to grow huge colas dripping with resin.

The pH Perfect nutes make it so easy for nOObs or pros to do a great job with the minimum of hassle and that's a huge plus to me being a lazy old hippy.

Corporations like Scotts, Mon$atan etc are poised to try to take over the pot industry and by putting your money in their pockets you are sleeping with the enemy. So wise the fug up and support the companies that have your interests at heart and make their products here in Canada and the US.

:peace:

gh is owned by Monsanto, so is general organics too...
Yup and botanicare is now owned by Monsanto
No and No. Scotts-Miracle Gro owns both of those companies. Scotts-Miracle Gro is NOT Monsanto. You can hate on Monsanto all you want. You can hate on Scotts-Miracle Gro all you want. I don't care. But they are NOT THE SAME COMPANY. NOR ARE THEY SUBSIDIARIES.

First Scotts bought General Hydroponics, which includes General Organics.

Second Scotts bought Gavita.

Third Scotts bought Botanicare.

Monsanto has purchased NOTHING.
