Sexy Scissor Work

Bag appeal and smell are very important in perceived value of the final bud to the user. Lots of time and energy is spent creating a proper dry and cure. There are a lot of varying opinions on exactly how a dry and cure should be carried out, and just as many opinions about trimming.

Trimming tends to be thought of as a mindless task that needs no explanation aside from the opinions on what stage of the drying it should happen.

I've seen a lot of different bud over the years, and have always enjoyed looking at and breaking apart buds just to see how they look, how developed they are, trich production, moisture and resin content, and color(s).

All growers will have varying quantities, with larger quantity comes a larger time investment in trimming and shaping. Do any of you have a particular method that you have deemed best for your application? How important is the look of the trimming to you? Do you prefer more, or less leaf matterial on the plant?

Just trying to get some pointers and opinions for myself, and maybe start some banter. Hopefully the explanations will come with pretty photos for us to gawk at and squak about.

I'm a novice, have only trimmed a couple samples of my pre-harvest tests in the later stages of my first grow, but here is how I trimmed after some thought about it. My basic strategy is to get out as much leaf as possible without being intrusive. Any small set of sugar leaves that I can get at the base of, I'll cut at the base with the tip of the shears. Anything else I'll clip as close to the calyxs as possible. I'll go through and cut the sets off first, and then work from top to bottom, it seems like a better view can be had of the work area. A few pieces of leaf tips have stuck on through drying... Shrug...

Hand trimmed product gets better money than machine trimmed every time.
Another reason us homegrowers are here to stay!
When my leaves dry its going to be easy to just peel them right off the bud. Only the ones I couldn't easily snip off with the scissors. 1454765993278-1436755123.jpg

I first cut each branch in a way that leaves me a hook to hang it by than I always trim all the fan leaves and any leaf tips not coated in trichomes (I trim with a lighted magnifying glass handy so I can really see if theres trichomes on each leaf). I hang the plant than do a dry trim. I mostly grow for myself so over the years my final trim has become lazier, I don't care about pulling off a random sugar leaf here or there, if I donate to someone I tend to clean it up a bit before donating.

When trimming I always leave the small sugar leaves on there, met hey are always covered in Thc and since the smoke is personal, it suits me fine, the rest goes into making rho.

Also there will be little shriveled 5bladed leaves coming from most main stems. If you can reach to clip the base of those it makes it much easier in the long run. Said leaves are critical for bag appeal.

Do you guys snip out all the tiny fan leafs that come out of the buds near the top or just cut and form then to the bud. Not talking about main leafs but the trich covered ones.

personaly i get the best trim when i trim them wet , after it starts to dry the leaves all start to droop and its a pain i trim it all very tight n take all leaves off (just more for extract) more leaves u take off the better the cure and less harsh the smoke from what i hear, hard to say ive notices since i always trim wet and all up in them buds lol even the small sugar leaves but it gets to be a pain in the ass ... i wana buy a trimmer machine but dnt trust em to do as good of a job honestly

I herd that it's best to hang for 48 hours then take off all big leafs, then hang for 5 days and then cut all leaves off. Any word on it that's a good way?

trim it as tight as possible, letting it dry first the small sugar leaves start curling under and its much more of a pain to get a tight trim ...
