CXB3590 800W tent

Working on building a new tent. 4'X8'X7', cut to size from Home Depot 2X3s, genuine Polar Bear plastic, 11 mil tarp for the floor.

The polar bear plastic is very nice, matte finish on both sides versus the glossy plastic I got from HTG supply years ago. They advertise reflectivity and I can confirm they are thick enough to be completely light proof.

I have tried many duct tapes and I learned to spare no expense on that. This time I am using a combo of Scotch Tough Tape Extreme Hold and Gorilla Tape.

The carbon filter/ventilation fan is DIY, using 3 LBS of coconut shell carbon in the lid of a $5 7 gallon Sterlite tote. The fan is inside the tote, a Max Fan 6". I would have used a hyper fan 8" but I already had the Max Fan on hand. The fan takes 60W of low, 70W on medium and 80W on high, 334 CFM max. It is very quiet on low which I appreciate.

The LED are still being built. There will be 32 CXB3590, mostly 3500K running at 20-25W ea. Passive cooled on 4.9"X14" heatsinks with a pair of COBs on each. The COBs will be spaced 9" apart. Some of the heatsinks will be 10.08"X6" with COBS spaced 7" apart

The drivers are Mean Well HLG-185H-C700B, powered at 240V. The timer is a 240V 40A Tork 1104 with double pole switch. They can be expensive but I have been able to find them on ebay much cheaper. I used 10A DPST switch for each driver. Broke the rules by using 120V 20A outlets and plugs to carry 240V, but the board is only pulling 3.75A and it has a dedicated romex run to the breaker. I like the 20A outlets at Lowes better than Home Depot because they can be easily rear wired, same price $3 ea. Home Deopt charges $7 for 20A outlets with rear wiring.

Hello SupraSPL,
It is inspiring to see a grower using DIY things available around them. From your soil to your carbon filter to your lights you just seem to say
"shit I can make that" and crack on with it. Your self-reliance will give many over priced grow shops the sad face. (:

Are you planning on running multiple strains at different heights like your other tents? I know that is your style. I am just curious to see a mono crop(or similar strains) tent pruned and trained with even canopy by you. With your head for figures and observation it would be interesting to have an opinion on training techniques under COBs.

Thanks man, there is definitely an emphasis on reducing overhead wherever it makes sense to do so, but hopefully without compromising where it counts.

Regarding the chaotic canopies, the truth is I have a seed addiction, frantically testing as many varieties as I can get through while respecting plant count. Constantly searching for new and unique varieties to add to the list of keepers. Patients respond very positively to variety, so I keep the best ladies around and rotate them.

For those reasons I run a constantly changing mixture. The heatsinks are easily adjustable in 6 axis so it has been no trouble to manage the canopies. The ladies from seed tend to be taller, along with sativa doms, so they often get put in the back toward the wall, with the lights slightly angled at them. The medium height in the middle and the shorties on the front edge. So sometimes you get a slanted canopy from front to back. Then I take clones and clear out any underbrush that it is not getting direct light.

As the plants grow into the flowering space I will shape the canopy slightly and adjust the lights slightly as needed. I try to set myself up so I dont have to spend much time adjusting lamps etc,. I just pinch and bend a few colas, remove/tuck a few fan leaves, tie up any floppers with twist tie and binder clips.

I empathise with your seed addiction. When I lived in Holland I had a much larger grow space and found myself dedicating more and more space to new strains. Back then we had the seed swap clubs and strains were traversing the globe in abundance. Every Time a new strain reached me I had to grow it out. My Dutch compadres thought I was silly to use valuable space just to see what certain strains did. It was all rockwool slabs and SOG back then. A square metre had a monetary value and any deviation from the "white" yielders was considered crazy.
Most growers just bought their cuts from the grow shop nuked them with salts for two months, dried them (no curing) and straight to the coffee shops.
My personal grow space is much smaller and organic now. Plant count is important where I live. So longer veg and scrog is my preference due to height restrictions. I can run multi strains with modular trays but I am limited to a certain number at a time.
Once I complete my build I look forward to sharing my experiences with you, one enthusiast to another.:weed:

Haha kindred spirit in many ways. I have sacrificed quite a lot of "productivity" searching beans for new flavors but I am happy to make that sacrifice and it has paid dividends well worth it.

When I first started the project I understood that I had no idea what Cannabis should actually smell like, but reality was much more amazing than imagination. It would have been hard to believe if someone had told me I would come across tangy grape, lemon vanilla cake, menthol, citrus, flammable cherry, lemony pine, lanolin, strawberry quick, flammable smarties and so many others. There is really no way to describe what OG cologne smells like, it is its own spice you just have to experience it. Same goes for Chemdawg stank and many others. I am looking forward to finding many more surprises :leaf:

OK, so correct me if I am wrong but u are running 32 cobs on 4 drivers? Also how do u regulate the 20-25 watts to each cob? Is there a power adjustment on the power supply for this? I am new to all of this diy cob's and im trying to learn as much as I can without going crazy hahahaha...

Yea you can run can 8 CXB3590 36v on a HLG-185H-C700B, also the C700B has a external control that you attach a 100k potentiometer to so you can dimm the light.

What do you need to calculate efficiency and PPFD from these chips. Looking to run 4 of these dimmed down to around 1000 watts total. Might run the HLG 320 x 4, unless they have a better driver for their chips.

SPD, Vf x If chart, If x relative output chart, temperature x relative output chart, temperature x voltage chart. This should be enough.
But these FC Opto COBs have poor efficiency. They're also specified at 25°C. Try to imagine what will be the temps like @250W.

Rebuilt veg driver board to double up on veg power for the new tent. It will be (6) CXA3590 5K 70 CRi DB +(6) CXB3590 5K 80 CRi CD. Running them at 200-350mA or 12-25W ea, passive cooled and using DIY reflectors
