Welcome this is my first attempt at dwc I have just finished a coco grow and wanted to try a different way so I picked Dwc, I looked into buying a already built one (yeah they're cheap ) but you can't beat making your own. So that's what I did I went off down to the hydro shop got myself a net pot, 5 gallon bucket ( with lid ), clay pebbles and some air line, I already had a air stone and air pump from back in the day of keeping tropical fish.

As soon as I got home I wanted to get going so I got my drill out the shed marked up the lid with the net pot and started to drill the million little holes (so I didn't split the plastic) I do have a hole cutter but I was so excited to get going I couldn't be arsed to go look for it in my void I call a shed!. Then I drilled another single hole away from the hole for the net pot for my air line and that was it done! As far as making a bucket that is, I fished out my air pump and air stone I used the golf ball shape stone as i think it produces more bubbles than a flat stone (IMO) hooked up the pump plugged it in added ph'd water to 6.0 all I needed next was the plant and the pebbles.

Me being me I already had the weedling in a separate pot in coco coir from the grow before (not used), it had broken ground and produced its first true (serrated) leaves it was in the pot for around 6 days prior to this point, so I transplanted the little weedling into the net pot with a little bit of coco still around the weedling topped up with pebbles and boom! I was there I was finished!!

The first few days were slow going, the weedling didn't seem to have much growth going on, on top. All was good I knew my little weedling was growing roots and those roots needed to find the edge of the pot before it starts kicking leaves out above ground,

Now (today) 7 days gone being in the net pot I went up to my tent unzipped it opened the door and there it was it had started kicking out more leaves, I was like "WOW That was quick" it's already on 3 bladed fan leaves (alot quicker than coco).

I will be posting with pictures as it gets a bit bigger here's a few pictures of my progress so far.

Update! I have added a drip feed on a water pump so I can force feed this little baby also got my hands on a 400w ballast so I can eventually run 400w for veg and flower in warmer months (reducing heat issues). The seedling has what I call it's first true set/node when she hits 3 ill be topping her ass!

Added a cool tube to the grow room today so now I can run the 400 hps without the excessive heat plaguing me! Got my temps down to 29c with one 6" clip on fan on the 2nd setting so when the 6ft pedastal fan gets back in there should be plenty cool enough I have the tube hooked up to a vent axia inline fan (cheap, but cheerful) it's bigger than my original fan which is ducted up to the filter. Still unsure of my approach to this grow all I have to stick to is I can't put it on bloom till the 1st of January so I have 42 days to get her as big as I can in my space. Time to get thinking!!!

Day 16; The plant has started bushing out nicely the spacing between each node is pretty tight the main stem and branches look pumped to the max (I can see a big difference from my first grow at day 16). I need to go up and top off and adjust the ph so ill get some new pictures when I do, my cfls still haven't arrived so I'm still under the 400w hps. Roll on day 21 that's when I hope things really start growing up and out then come the net to spread her out to the corners of the grow room. <Looking forward to that bit!!

This photo was taken on the 19/11. Not much to say.20151122_143944.jpg

This picture was taken today 22/11, 4 days has passed since the first photo, big difference is size and structure all branches and stems are chunky.

Here's a few more pictures I took while I was in the room!

**update**

Things have changed, im no longer in the 5 gal bucket I've swapped it out for a 15 gal bucket, it has 2 sites for the future.

I have pistils showing at 2 1/2 weeks into veg. I have also made my scrog net I set the spacing to 2" squares, I can make it bigger or smaller as and when I need to.

I have topped the plant a second time, 4 days ago, going to leave her to grow up a little bit more and I might top the tops to make her fill out more!. Ph is stable a 5.8. Still waiting on EC to arrive!

Was a little nervous when it came to adding the nutes in the new bigger bucket as i am feeding half strength, it felt alot adding 70ml of A and 70ml of B, but since seeing the results of the last few days I'm not nervous anymore!!

Hey man amazing grow! I have one question tough, how do you change the water in the res? Do you take the whole net off or do you have some kind of valve in the new bucket?

Someone told me they had successful grows without cleaning the res out not even once so I decided to go ahead and do that I use the second plant site to see in what the water level and take ph and ec readings but if I'd had two plants in there I wouldn't of had a way to look in lol going back to the 5 gal buckets after this run I have a tap on them so it will be easier!
