Rosin Making problems.

Hey guys, VP here. been a while.. I see twitch and FD are still around. no guzias though.

seems like the vac purge BHO tech has died and its all about rosin now!

I thought id give it a try, as well as my brother. we both couldnt get it to work. the irons max temp was 450F and we put it at 3/4 setting.

we tried with .1g of kief at approx 350F, squeezing it by hand on a table, full weight on it for 15 seconds or so... nothing!

tried with 1g of nice bud, crushed into a smaller ball.. same thing, 350F, approx 250 lbs of pressure. didnt get anything!

brother tried the same thing with pure kief and he got nothing too.

what were we doing wrong? not enough heat? not enough pressure? not enough starting material

watched some youtube vids on it and it seems extremely easy. the one guy made it with just his body weight so whats going wrong here??

advice? tips?

thanks

Not really sure why it isn't working out for you. I would try using the bud and maybe break the nugs into smaller .2-.3 nugs. I'm sure you are giving enough pressure as it doesn't really take too much. Pics of the bud? I got about 20% with flower and 30-40% with hash.

The heat is a little to high as well, for flowers most do it at 300f and for hash/kief most people do it at 220-260f if not lower.

A little clip video I made to help a member out a while back on how to do it.

Was it crackling or smoking/steaming? If so you probably ran too hot for too long. I try for a couple seconds of crackling and then stop. Three seconds of crackle and I get smoke, too long. Depending on the size of nugget I'm running this could be 6- 12 seconds total time, for kief, maybe just a couple seconds or less. I'm running around 300F and will pick up a cooler iron soon for kief and hash.

Pre-pressing buds in a pollen press really increased my yields. I use a little steam on a dry bud before going in the pollen press to keep the buds from breaking apart. This produces a 15-20% yield on flowers of relatively clean amber without a screen.

it was a jetblack hair straightener or something. not positive.

yes it crackled. I was told/taught to hold it until the cracking stops, then its basically done.

it was 350F range pressed with my full weight on it for about 10-15 seconds.

we pre pressed the buds by hand in parchment paper.

my brother tried the same thing by himself, his own technique, and didnt get nothing. I think he did it at around 200-250F

I thought this was pretty easy stuff to make?

ive seen guys make rosin from bunk, and my bud was pretty nice. A or AA grade. not AAA by any means but nice kush.

the crystal was from the grinder. maybe we didnt use enough. most guys are doing it with a gram it seemed like. buddy that made it with me said his container only had about a half a gram, and even then we only used like 1/10th of a half gram... so like .05G. got the parchment paper wet but didnt make any oil which I guess isnt a huge surprise.

but we also tried afterwards with 1G of bud, and still nothing.

find the Remington wet to straight, the bigger one is like 28.99 in the states and the lowest setting is 260 to 280 it varies flat iron to flat iron.

and the vac purge method is still what pays the bills the rosin is just a new frontier to be concurred..

Mawning CD/VP! Some of us are old enough for fossilization to have already started, and stone weather storms with minimal damage. Especially when we turn our leathery asses to the hard blows, to preserve our pretty faces and protect our privates.

As you can see, my face hasn't changed a bit, but damn if you haven't gotten better looking brother!

JColtrane brought by his straightener and we made some tasty aromatic Rosin, so I bought one to experiment with, but have buried with other projects, and haven't pursued it further.

Some major corporate projects are two strokes short of orgasm, and as soon as they are a fait accompli, I will ostensibly have more time to spend on it.

I did also judge some excellent Rosin samples in the recent Portland Dope Cup, so I see it as continuing to grow and expand.

It has yet to be developed into a process that replaces the solvent bulk extraction processes, but there is no doubt in my mind it will find its niche.
