do i need an RO system to grow aero?

ive been growing using the hempy buckets no soil just 3 parts perlite to 1 part vemlite and my plants are doing great i was wondering sense hempy is much like hydro would one need an ro system to switch to aero? if my tap water is doing good using the hempy wouldnt it also be ok to use with aero? the reason i ask when i switch to ro i will have to buy cal/mag etc would it be a good idea to make the switch without an ro? also whats the pros and cons on the rails vs the 4 inch pipe?

yes i was looking at them they look about the same size and there much cheaper then the rails...i took a sample of my water to the grow shop with me my water tested like 132 ppm i was thinking the rails would be easier
