Went out for my weekly cactus watering. Last week I saw a gouge in on of the smaller ones. No big deal, they get shaved or bruised or maybe a little rot every so often.

But today I see two others gouged and the growing tip clipped off.

SOMETHING IS EATING MY CACTUS.

It isnt bugs, it isnt rot. Some animal is managing to dodge, (or eat?) my smaller cactus. Five are now damaged. What the he'll eats bitter, prickly disgusting cactus?

Rats? Mice? Gophers? Voles?

Anyone got a clue? This is an eleven year project.

Shit.

Javalina, deer, rabbits, and even humans eat cactus. Various birds eat the fruit of the Saguaro and Prickly pear. Insects, birds, and bats pollinate the cactus.

Voles are easy to spot, youll have holes all over your yard a little larger than the diameter of a quarter. These are tunnles that these little fuckers use to travel through. They eat all kinds of shit too, theyve been bad in my garden this year.

maybe get some mole / vole bait?...
set an area of choice to set the bait... [away from your garden]
see what little vermin settles in your baited area...
capture them and release them far far away from your garden.
if baited area still attracts said mollah fuggahs....then its time to get real.
[and i dont mean violence]

please post updates.

I'm not sure where's in the U.S. You live exactly but here in AZ and in many other areas of the southwest Javalina's would be the most likely culprits. They eat cactus all the time amazingly scientists can't figure out how they can do this without harming there mouths. I. You would not believe the things they will eat. I remember one time they had eaten chunks out of my grandmas wicker furniture. They are also really ballsy. They come right up onto my porch to eat the chicken feed I have. I had to start keeping it inside at night check out the pic I took of them!IMG_0104.JPG
