would it be better to buy a grow box with hps or just get a adjust a hood 1000w hps
2 600's like dude is doing on this site. Or be the first I think to do a 1 panel 1000 watt cob lamp. Just be sure and do a fire og, or sfv cuts if you go 1000 watt cob pannel. I need to see the results on that. Please.

If your lamp dissipates 600W of electricity, you will be generating 600W of heat in your grow room. It doesn't matter what kind of lamp it is or how efficient it is. 600W of power doesn't just disappear into the void just because it's from LED.

If you're planning on getting a grow box and you're not sure what you should be getting, get HPS.

There's too much confusion and misinformation about LED for a new grower to even consider straying from convention. The only led arrays worth buying cost a ton, and it's questionable whether most customers will ever amortize the cost. Most leds actually have negative amortization to upgrade to meaning that HPS will actually use less power.. Basically just stay away...

I was thanking having a setup where I could start seedlings and keep mother plants for clones and move the seeds and clones out side for spring when they get big so my out door grow would be bigger

I switched from a 400w hps to 200w worth of cree cobs and I'm pulling the same weight with less heat.
yes 200w less generated heat will help with the temp problem but your still not generating the same light output unless your running the top best cobs at really low current. For me it was worth it to switch from my hps to i like it better and it feels safer sure it was expensive but i don't grow for profit and upgrade is my near future will be cheap and i can still use all my old chips for veg so I'm stoked. Honestly if your interested read read read cause lotsa crap out there but when you make it through you'll come to your conclusion of why COBS are a real contender and they just keep getting better

I've found it difficult to move some strains outdoors after a few months of indoor veg. All my indica went straight to flower despite the fact that it was early May. If I'd started them outside early, they wouldn't have started to flower until after the summer solstice. Maybe I could've veged them with less than 18 of light since they were destined to be finished outside. Idk?
Plus, I live in Florida now, sativa does much better in this climate and latitude. All my sativa started to flower early too, but they faired better in the extreme heat and humidity than the indica did.
Just some things to consider when moving from indoor to outdoor.

Frankly, unless you're going to eventually to set up a full indoor grow, I wouldn't invest in anything more than a 4' 400 watt CFL, some starter pots, and rich, soil with enough perlite to give adequate drainage. Set that up in a closet about next March and by the time you put them outside when it's appropriate. Again, consider the light time, because too much change will throw them into flower.
Good luck.

where I'm at making them flower before choppers start flying is not a bad idea or did they start flower then reveg

LED,and buy a quality one.you wont have to worry about AC reflectors/fan for heat. A good Intake/Exhaust and your good to go. figure every 2x2 get 200watts? or something close to that?

still all energy turns into heat. led will allow more light to the canopy for less watts that's the only way you'll save on heat
last time you talked about how you run 35w per foot with your hps so I'd like to see this 3 pounds of fluff
Lol my nugs are far from fluffy. How's it feel to be left behind? Instead of putting me down you should be curious how I am killing your yields . Add the ethos collective on the Insta. They are making my yields look like kid work . 3.5-4 pounds a light with 4-5 plants per light. 5x6 spread . With 100+ lights at a time. People need to start thinking outside the box and get away from there trays and 4x4 spread

No they just flowered and finished way early that season. Especially considering Florida's grow season can last until November. It freaked me out. The indica was bought from Nirvana Seeds and I kept the males indoor and managed their pollen. I pollinated the lower braches and the plants were fully mature and seeds ready to harvest by the first week of August.
I also know growers that do a "second season" outdoor down here, but the yield kind of negates the risk.

What you have said is interesting. I haven't used LED, but I'm convinced they're the future of indoor grow ops.
One question: Why not run a high powered fan over the heat sinks and light fixture the way HID's do? It'll just make the whole grow that much cooler.
I'm surprised that non of the ready made LED grow light manufacturers haven't embraced the flow through cooling system.

This is they way I view it.

Hps for winter because keeping a room warm can be a bitch here. Kinda defeats the object if I have the radiator on. Plus my house is

Led for summer, keeps temps and bills down.

As for which is best, we'll choose the one that's best for your needs. I think they are both great. You can also mix them up. Led for flowering and hps for veg.

What about led for veg and hps for flowering?

Only got 20 zips in an area 40x46 inches. 600w led. But I grow in soil and veg 30 days or so. Some believe plants finish a bit quicker. But I just grow for myself and really don't put a lot of work into it. Just as long as it grows dope use it.
