Marijuana for Nausea.

I've been on Zoloft over 15 years. Switched to it when the prozac quit working....which they gave me when the Paxil stopped working. I asked about backing off of it last year and was told I would die without in patient detox and then there is no guarantee. Xanax 12 years....I've been told my brain chemistry has been changed. The irony is I kept getting sent to shrinks because the Dr.'s (several) kept telling me my illness is in my head. It was/is Lupus. Almost 18 years of you're a hypochondriac..... I'm not the kind of Dr you need. The only time in my life I was suicidal was on a Dr. "cocktail". I put the loaded cocked gun down, put the 8 bottles of pills in a bag, drove to the Dr. office I saw and said I don't understand why I almost killed myself. Life is not that bad....I love my kids. Was seen by the Dr immediately. He took the bag of pills, read each bottle then said I'd kill myself too if I was on this combination/cocktail. Weaned me off 6 of them. He saved me.

Nausea....I find that edibles work quite well for it. Better than smoking....for me.
A vapor pen is great and discreet if you just smoke. A hit or two during the day might help while not getting you to high to work. Wishing you the best.
Thanks MAN!

Wow - you've been through some SHIT with this medication!

I actually didn't full on puke to bile yesterday, and that was the first day. Sure I gagged and there was a lot of stomach air/ burps/ whatever. But I didn't actually puke, and that's a good thing!

WHEW!

That is great!

This will sound nuts....but than I am so ....;).....If I chug 6 ounces of cold water (bile puking) as soon as it hits bottom (tummy) it rebounds and brings up the bile in one batch. Once that is out I start feeling better very quickly. It's not a painless puke but it saves me hours of nausea when I do that. I can usually start holding down food about an hour later. This might just be the answer for me. But thought I would throw ( :0 ) it out there.

I went cold turkey off Effexor and it was the dumbest thing I've ever done. Felt great for two weeks and then the brain zaps began. Four months later I could take it no longer and told my doctor. He got me on another SRI and then tapered me down from there. You are on a good plan with your taper so hang in there!

OMG the Water thing worked great!

I didn't throw up yesterday (which was a first since this started) but today I knew I would. The water totally helped get it all out, and not as painfully as usual.

THANKS!

Nausea and vomiting, whether due to chemotherapy, AIDS treatment, abdominal surgery, or another cause, can be effectively remedied through the use of medical marijuana. By Smoking medical marijuana helpful for both relieve nausea and stimulate the appetites of patients with nausea, reducing the risk of weight loss in patients with conditions like cancer and AIDS.

Yeah it really does.

Except, I don't have any medicine that doesn't get me high. And I can't be high and smoke all day at work.

I'm very lucky. For me, it will all be over soon.

I can't even imagine if this shit lasted more than a couple months. I feel so badly for people that have some terrible, life long diseases and they are unable to get prescriptions legally for something that FUCKING WORKS.

Sorry, I'm about to fall asleep and got a little rant-y there.

Thank you for your input. Everything helps!

Hello,

I am having adverse reactions to another kind of antidepressant, an SNRI called Effexor.

I have talked to my doctor and I am about to start tapering/ cross tapering. I will ween off the effexor, and start taking half doses of Prozac. In three weeks or so I will be off the effexor and on 20mg of Prozac.

But, I am really sick. I can't eat before 3 or 4pm, or I WILL throw up. I gag and dry heave constantly. It's really fucking with my shit.

Weed helps, but I can't be super high all day at work.

Any suggestions? Or any kinds of Weeds that people have used to help with Nausea?

I have been taking Girl Scout Cookies, and that helps a lot. But again - I can only smoke in the morning, lunch break, and after work.

Any help or stories to share would be really appreciated.

THANKS!
hey, girl!..i agree about dumping the effexor (hella did XL for about a week and fuck that!)..i've been round and round..lexapro would be a better option..it's what i take and if i need a lift..wellbutrin 150 SR..it helps too with any craving that you may be trying to control..smoking, food..drugs.

it is what i consider most 'natural' feeling.

i thought you made cookies and other medibles? that would be what to take while working.

The cookies are the only thing that work.

But I can't be high AT WORK. Not as high as I need to be to stop the throwing up.

It'll all be over soon! Thanks so much!

I have an incurable condition that gives me extreme nausea on a pretty much daily basis.
Doctors try to give me Ativan and Amitriptyline but I can't function on them. I am much more productive when high and in six years at this job nobody has ever noticed that I come in to work high as a kite everyday. If they have, they don't care.

The water diluted the acid in your vomit which reduces the burning feeling.

Funny part is, I was diagnosed as a kid; now I'm 27 and doctors try to blame my symptoms on weed, they never have a response when I ask them what was causing these symptoms when I was six.

I still keep the prescriptions around as a backup medicine for if I don't have weed but try to avoid using them. I've had family freak out thinking I was dead because Ativan makes my breathing so shallow.

Sorry I can't think of much to help you while at work. Tinctures might give you some relief but probably never close to the relief you get from smoking.

Outside work, you might find very hot showers to be relaxing and take your mind off the nausea. A lot of people scoff at it but meditation is also helpful, especially for nausea caused by anxiety.

amitriptyline is a tri-cyclic anti-depressant and of course, ativan is a mild benzo..none of which are typically used off label for nausea..i hope your doc is taking you seriously..tri-cyclics are the oldest generation of anti-depressants and cause severe drowsiness again..ive never heard of this used as 'off label' for nausea.

i have an issue myself which is one reason why i need to med daily..often time the nausea is so bad weed doesn't even help.

all it takes is one heave and i can't stop the cycle..stuck sitting on the toilet with a vomit bag and pipe.

Sounds like you have what I have or something similar. Once I get sick I can't stop, I have episodes that can last for days.

The doctors had me using lorazepam as a sedative to abort cycles because if I can fall asleep I usually feel fine when I wake up. The amitriptyline was prescribed because my issue is linked to migraine headaches.

I couldn't think of the other prescription at the time but they gave me phenegren for the nausea which also makes me tired.

yeah i had phenergan too..i recently (last year or two) had something which worked well (didn't make me tired) can't remember what it was..i'll have to go through my rx account..worked well and i could function..i don't have the money to go to the doc and get more.

my situation was a result of gallbladder surgery.

I've been doing better without any prescription meds. I use weed to treat my nausea and as a sedative to replace the lorazepam and phenegren.

I also avoid things that I know trigger episodes and use meditation to keep me in a calm state because stress and even excitement can cause an attack.

When I was on meds I was having 10-12 attacks a year that would last 2-5 days. Since getting off the meds and managing this myself I've cut it down to around 3 attacks a year that only last a couple days.

I was pretty much born with this, the first attack I had was when I was six. It's related to migraine headaches and epilepsy.
