Smoking to improve congestion and lung function?

Hello everyone,

I have been facing nasal congestion issues pretty much every day until recently for as long as I can remember. I used to smoke cigarettes everyday until 2 years ago when I decided to quit cold turkey (after many attempts). In the recent times I decided to start smoking pot again (without tobacco). I have been smoking bongs, and joints without tobacco (from my experience, a joint has always been with tobacco by default). I haven't been smoking everyday (except for a few periods). I noticed that on many days my nasal congestion was consistently lower or lesser. This is a big deal for me because I have been a mouth breather my whole life and anyone who is also a mouth breather might understand how much of a difference this can be in quality of life. I started to think about what if the smoke was somehow causing changes in my lungs and sinus cavity that might result in a sort of 'damage and repair process', that ultimately allowed me to breathe more freely. I wanted to know if there was anyone else who experienced something similar? Or maybe this is a coincidence or something else that I'm not taking into account? I have decided to try periods of smoking followed by abstinence for maybe a few days to allow a repair along with conscious deep breathing techniques to help repair the intentional 'damage' to my lungs (for lack of a better word). I have also been trying to get atleast an hour of exercise everyday like cycling, and other workouts. I've been told that I also have a low blood pressure when measured. The congestion seemed to improve when I was involved in intense physical exercise, so I wondered how this might relate to smoking as I've read that pot can have effects on heart rate and blood flow. What is your opinion and experience on how smoking has affected your respiratory function? Thanks for reading! :bigjoint:

I don't know personally but I am a mouth breather still am unfortunately but I need to quit smoking cigarettes. Besides the point my wife has asthma and bad congestion issues and whenever she smokes herb she won't have any problems for usually days as when she doesn't the inhalers a must every day. So I could see some truth in that. Absolutely.

Have you seen a doctor about your congestion? My dad takes a once daily pill for his and it works great. It's generic and only costs $5 per month and has no side effects according to my dad. It might be worth checking with your doctor.

Thats one of the things weed doesnt cure is congestion or allergies...actually it would make it worse smelling and inhaling terpines. Ive had allergies all my life , pollen etc. Taking bong rips doesnt help for bronchitis i know that for sure too;)
I got a damn chest cold right now. I'm scared its turning to pneumonia. Coughing green mucus up. Weed is not helping it.

I quit smoking cigs almost three years ago. I quit snoring and breath better.

I'm actually thinking about going to a vaporizer.

I'm not so sure it doesn't help with breathing and congestion.
I had terrible asthma as a kid. I used to have to carry around 3 inhalers everywhere I went. Still had the paper bag episodes at school and all. Super embarrassing and inconvenient to say the least. Starting stealing bud and hash from my dads stash at 14 and haven't gotten an inhaler prescription since.
Haven't had an attack in 23 yrs.
Not saying that mj cured my asthma but even my Dr thinks that the deep breathing and holding it in has helped strengthen my lungs.

I actually have some whole leaf green tea given to me by my ex Chinese step mom. Its good stuff.

I also have some homemade corn liquor that I thought about adding honey and lemon to. Could I add the cloves to the whiskey?

Thank you for the recipe. I'm going to make some now.

I had a friend back in the day that would soak a blunt wrap in nyquil before smoking.

No doubt. There are studies where cannabanoids are being used in inhalers to treat asthma and copd.

As we know certain cannabanoids are good for inflammation. Its the smoke that's not so good.

You removed the tobacco. Maybe your body didn't like it.
Milk, Cheese, pollen, a NE Breeze all bring me shortness of breath.
I can only handle one at a time. (insert old man icon)
