well if the trichromes are right and they are ready for actual harvest i chop in the night time when the lights are off.. i personally trim fresh that day then let hang dry.. depending on the time of the year.. winter i hang them for 2-3 days .. summer/spring i hang for 4-5 days.. then i cut the buds off the stems and place them in a jar... not too much in one you want air to get in easily.. then just burp the jars every day for a few minutes a day for about two weeks... then after that here and there burp them every few days for two weeks and in 1 month -1.2months it should be good as long as your burping the jars properly.

some people will just hang dry for like 2 weeks and jar them then maybe burp for a week and be done.. but i personally think the flavors come in after about 3 weeks MINIMUM of proper jar curing.. i generally always jar cure at least 1 month before sampling!

Leave in complete darkness and very dry conditions for last 24 hours.
The complete darkness will insure everything has moved down into the roots so give it a cleaner taste.
Then dry conditions will make sure it has given its all in trich production to protect its self.
Then cut at the base before it gets any light so nothing transfers out of the roots.

Personally I trim them up straight away since dry time is then only 4-5 days. Trimmings go into container which I store in the freezer to make bubble hash from when enough is collected.
Buds on stems go into a cardboard box which has clean air flowing though it and minimum amounts of light entering.
Checked daily until stem snaps easily instead of just bending.

Then put in jar and opened for few secs in morning and afternoon, If any sweet shows in the jar they are put back into cardboard box. After a week of opening like that then change to opening only once a day, 3rd week only open every few days. This is the point they start to smell nice.
I recently tried water curing and worked better then I expected. In 1 weeks time from cut smoking was as nice as 4 week old air dry/cured stuff. But there was no nice smell. Smelt like nothing and when smoking the smoke to others smelt almost like wood burning.

Once plants are ready i cut branches off the plants and trim all fan/large leaves off before hanging. Any thing smaller than a thumb nail gets frozen straight off the plant for fresh frozen extraction. I hang them on wire fencing in a dark room with a couple fans moving air around and a dehumidifier set to 50% RH. I let them dry to desired amount then I cut the buds off the branches and place everything in rubbermaid bins until it all can be trimmed.

I trim when dry so that I can use all the trimmings to run through the extractor. If trimmed when wet you would have to dry the trimmings separately which takes up more space and is a pain to do. Imo its a lot easier to just to dry all the sugar leaf right on the branches. Thats why I take all the fan/large leaves off when I am pulling down so that when its trimmed the only thing getting saved is the sugar leaves and the fans don't have to be separated during trimming.

why would you put your nugs in cardboard boxes to dry ... hang them.. in a closet .. you remind me of a high school friend that would wrap buds in paper towel and stick them in heat vent.

Because my spare closet has my clones in it and dont have any where else to dry them.
Use cardboard because have plenty of clean boxes and after the drying they stink so throw them out. Stops the whole house being stunk out.

Similar to like this.

thanks for letting me know all your methods. i personally take off all fan leaves, then cut the plant down at the bottom main stem then i hang the plant upside down over a large plastic tray then i take off all the small leaves so they all fall into the plastic tray to be saved for later. i then hang the plant in my grow tent in complete darkness until outside feels touch dry normally 2-3 days i then cut off all the buds and put them in a drying rack for about another 2-3 days i then put them into a plastic bin bag checking every few hours for signs of moisture in the buds. once they feel soft again i then put them back in the drying rack until i can leave them in the plastic bin bag for 24 hours with no signs of moisture i then start the curing process by putting them loosely into large jars burping them on a regular basis. i have tried many methods and i find this one works best for me as i find it gives the cleanest taste.

with all the small leaves that was saved earlier i make either some sort of hash or oil.
