Hey guys!

Maybe you are tired of first-time-growers nonsense queries... Well... Here's another first-timer, but trust me, I've made my homework, and researched a lot before coming to you to ask, so hope this aren't that dumb queries!

First question... Anyone from SA growing (germinating) at the moment? I'm having some difficulties on here... It's been almost 2 weeks since I started my seeds, but nothing have popped up, but a very tiny root (no more than 2mm long)

What and how am I doing it?

Seeds: Auto THC Bomb fem (2) from Attitude Seeds Bank
Water: bottled water
Medium: first 3 days used Rockwool cubes, but then moved to paper towel, as I was worried about rockwool's pH could be lowering my seeds growth.
Temperature: First 3 days was room temp (cool days, between 10-20C degrees). Moved into my growing room (which I'll detail it shortly) and turned the lights on trying to get more stable and warmer environment. So leaved it in the with 24h light (lights are not hitting the seed directly, they're covered trying to get some darkness), and temperature is average 24C degrees with a 45% rH.

My growing room;

"Tent": A freebie wardrobe from gumtree (180X75X55)
Lights: Mars Hydro Led lights 400W
Reflective: All inside the wardrobe is covered with mylar
Ventilation: I built 1 exhaust fan in the top and 1 other to pull fresh air in on the middle of the wardrobe. (2X120mm computer fans)

Seeds seems to be germinating extremely low (again, almost 2 weeks and less than 2mm long root), but "growing"... So, here I come with the questions;

  • Should those seeds will eventually, grow enough to give any descent buds?
  • Should I discard them and try with some other seeds that I have left? If so, what's your recommendation for germinate in this season time in SA?
  • Winter is nearby, so what's the best option to keep your seedlings/plants warm in the tent? I thought into induct some hot air coming from a heater fan controlled with a temperature controller.
Well, that's it! Thanks a lot guys for reading, and hope to hear some good advises from you!
Have fantastic smokes you all!

Cheers

Here is my 20 cents worth of advice, if you can't see any green leaf after two weeks, start again.

Thanks mate!

Actually last night one of them was already so big to move it into soil! Maybe I was being a bit impatience!

Thanks again! :D

A few pieces of advice:
1) get a heat mat and leave it on 24/7
2) use those jiffy pellets that swell up to 3 times their size
3) keep the light (i use t5ho fluoros) about 3-4 inches above the jiffy pellets.
4) use only fresh water until they break the sufrace
5) only water once every 2-3 days

After many years of growing, I started having issues germing seeds. Sin from Sin City gave me the aboce advice and i have gone back to 100% germ rates!
Its all about warmth and not over watering to get them to germ. Once their above ground, so to speak, you're set!

HOLD UP!! which medium/soil are they in??? If ur using rockwool Id say overwatering... I run paper towel in a zip lock seems to keep moist that way for germinating.. ur seed should have a tiny tap root when planted usually a few MM's long.. I found giving my girls a super low strength nute at the start they tended to start better.. I was running twin fluoro right on top of em!!

Hey mate, thanks for the advises! I will keep practising next time with those certainly!

So far I made it up germinating 2 seeds 2 weeks time and they both look very healthy and growing up! :)

I'm moved one of those seeds into its final media pot (4gl) as it is an auto seed, and I read that autos don't really like a lot to be transplanted.
The other one is a regular fem and moved to a plastic cup. Both are growing in a seedling pot mix that I get from Bunnings. I'm feeding/watering every 3 days (I tested the soil with my finger til feel it dry 1 inch deep) with distilled water and adding very little of organic root strengthener and pH'ed at 6.5 and they look happy with this. No yellow spots, not burns or so!

At the beginning I started lightning with my Mars Hydro 400W growing LED light 24/0 about 60cms height from the seedlings (this heigh was the recommended by Mars Hydro). Then I noticed that my electricity bill was running high so fast, so decided for another option after 1 week of running this lights.

You guys won't believe me, but I changed for 2 Philips LED lights (also from bunnings $15aud) 14W/6500k/1400lm cold daylight (1 for each seedling) instead, and the babies reaction was awesome! The started growing very much faster! In less than 24hr they growth significantly, their leafs started pointing upwards and its green colour still bright & shine!

They have been growing with this configuration for only 3 (24/0) days time and they doubled its size. I'm running this lights very close to the seedlings as not produce any heat (around 12cm height).

I think will keep using this configuration (medium, lights & water/nutes period) until the jump into the vegetative stage. Then I will turn the 400W growing light on. Well, also have running a fan in a light speed so they can strength its stem.

I also have added a humidifier and a heater set at 70% rH & 24C, respectively, as the winter is now here and weather is turning rough.

Thanks everyone for advises and replies!

Cheers!

Hi

I'm a personal grower down under, finished my first grow and smoked it out already, waiting for next shipment of beans in the post...

In the mean time, i grew out some bagseed, can any one help me ID this strain? just grew it out from 5 - 10 yr old schwag seed from my dealer (he was a big hydro skunk/haze grower in the late 90's/early 00's) and it smells and tastes real fruity. up high...

Unfortunately you can't I.D strains on appearance or even smell, taste, effect etc, if you don't know you don't know. However it definitely does look like a nice sativa dominant strain, looks lovely

Yeh true that bro I'm the same we're almost there tho hehe
yep lots of prepping the ground, lousy infected mushroom compost bought in last season infested the place with fungus gnats & invisible(broad mites), pray to the gods you never get those feckers, it took a while to figure out what was happening, all of a sudden within a few days all the hairs off the half formed buds just disappear, plants stunts & just does not grow any further, buds taste just like burnt rubber
