I realized I don't want to be growing year-round. I want a year's supply in one grow: 4 lb, and I'm willing to sacrifice my no-fail option to get there, so hydro is in.

@dbkick, @justugh: how do I get there in the most straightforward way possible, in my space of 2’ 3” deep, 5’ 6” wide and 8’ 1” tall?

not possible in one grow .......frist time out ......with the area u have

1 lb in 4 months sure.......ok ...but 4 pounds in one grow in a 2x5x8 (nothing i know will do anything like that ) even my large hydro was in a 4x4x6 it took the whole thing up only got 26 oz

4 lbs in a grow u need 10x10x8 room 4 1000w 2 ton mini split .......going to need to be RDWC with chemical feed ....50 lb tank of co2 or a burner
16 plants going

My room is 5 by 7 feet or so . The most I've pulled in one grow was a little over 2 lbs. Was under 1kw and a shitty led panel, both of those being on a mover that moved a foot in each direction.
One plant went 17 ounces. The other 3 I can't remember exact weight but if they don't go 10 zips a plant I'm displeased.
I've been displeased a few times. Doesn't matter if it's soil or hydro you've got to learn to grow before you can expect much and then it can still be iffy.
With your high ceilings you could run DE if you have a cooling solution. But I'm gonna have to agree with justugh .
That small an area you're gonna have a hard time meeting your goals.

Cool thanks guys for resetting my expectations.

If I'm not pulling 4lb per grow, what's the best I can do in that space? @justugh, can't I buy two lights and create a shelved solution? I feel like I could get up to eight small plants in there, four on floor four on shelf.

@dbkick, what is DE, Double-Ended Lighting?

Yes double ended, but your room size probably wouldnt make it feasible. Two lec 315 would work well in a room that size .

your space it to short for a shelf system
12 inches for the planter
8 to 6 inches for the light to have open space
2 inchs for the shelf

12x2= 2 ft
be safe 8x2 1 foot 4 inches
2x2 4 inches
u lost 3 feet 8 inches ............gives u room for 2 foot plants
u could do the smaller ones 120 grams and under plants ......but at some point one or a few of them might be a issuse and u need to chop the tops

u will need to increase the intake and exhaust system with 2 lights in there one under the other the heat is going to build quickly ..............i am talking exchangeing the air in there maybe once every 30 secs ( u would not be able to add Co2 using a tank or a burner.....but the mash bucket will work )

a scrog system my work with the shelf units .............but u are limited to the smaller plants or possible 1 big one in a scrog on each lvl

"12in for the planter"
to confirm, are you talking about soil or hydro?

Doesn't a scrog require a square shape? Each would have to be no bigger than 2'x2'.

Actually my tent is <60ft3 so I don't think exchanging air every 30s will be a problem.

Wouldn't hydro reduce the height required in a shelf system?

i was counting soil for the 12 inches
hydro is 14 1/2 inches (bucket size) 5 gallon ones 3 gallons not sure

scrog does not need a sqaure shape

the point of it is to make the buds all at one Lvl .......controll the height of the plant bu also maxing out what the plant can do ( the feild it makes all the buds are getting the same amount of light ) so should all be dense thick buds in the end

Thinking about taking this out of the closet to make a bigger rig.

Maybe I don't need 4lb, what will I need for 3lb?

3 lbs in one grow cycle ........first time out no exp at reading the plant or mixing feed
i do not think it is possible with out using a very large set up to counter the fact u have not done this before (it takes me 1 or 2 grows to learn what the strain likes to get the timing right and the power of the feeding right to even half way max out the plant )

here is how i do it
1 i start the plant off in good soil and let it go natural (no train no pruning) this is my base for the strain (basic feed plan)
2 i start the same strain in mixed up set of soil just for that strain if it needs to hold more water if i need to add calcium ......then the feed plan is altered to increase the lvls i am giving to make the plant bigger (this is mostly timing and applying a base understanding of the feed/micros/stackers ) .......feed is feed it adds something in the base NPK anything else that u are adding to soil would be thought of as a stacker..........i am currently using 4 different product lines and intermixing them to get the best results
3 u repeat it again and again and again fine tuning the plants feed keeping notes of what u use and the ending weight .........with autos with in a year of growing them on a staggered 2 plants every 2 weeks in that year u have run 104 different experiments plus done about 10 different strains giving u base understand of the plant u should pull 4 oz plus off each plant by then unless it is sick or learning a new strain......then u do minimal 3 oz

the power the feed and all breaks down for me to be 1 dollar a day(more if u add stackers) with the plants ending with in 70 days of starting the plants as long as u part with it at 300oz u are in the profit on that first oz
if they ask here it is
1 times for the cost of the plant
2 times for me to double up and make more
3 times for me for the hard work and chance off getting caught
base cost times 3 ........then if the price is to low u want to match what it is going around at so not stepping on toes hence my base 300 price
