I checked it this morning, it's nitrogen. starting to turn a bit yellow. It's not had any nutes at all yet, but I normally get to at least the 2nd set of leaves before I start... odd? I guess it's just this strain. I'll upload some photos tonight and see what you guys think?

I finally got a chance to really inspect, and most importantly check the temp.
At soil level it was only 27*c, but when I rose the probe to the same level as the leaf it was 31.7*c!
This along with the first true leaves still in that taco shape, slightly curled and singe at the tips all point to heat stress.
I knew it'd be a problem in this box but considering it's barely 15*c at the moment in the room I thought I'd be ok until my faster fans arrived.
Guess I was wrong. I also think I was wrong about the nitrogen, but I was kinda iffy on that to begin with.
Any way, I've backed it off from the lights a bit for now as that's really all I can do. I'll see what that does in the morning.IMG_1234.JPG

Im not sure this one would be worth following.....i tried getting some help from a couple boards right after my seedling broke through the surface of a coco pellet......shortly after i put it on the window sill the day it sprang up someone in my flat disturbed it badly enough the entire sprout fell out of the pellet onto the floor....requiring me to gently replant it in a peat pellet. At that point i had no idea it would survive at all.....but here i am a few days later and its still alive...but for 10 days old its still pretty weak. I tried to msg you on here but i guess IM isnt allowed.

mate I've had plants survive more trauma. It'll be fine once it gets over it's shock.

I'm fairly sure I've caught the heat stress in time. Temp was 28*c when I first opened the case. The yellowing hasn't gotten any worse. The new growth looks nice and green. I really need these fans to show up soon so I can get closer to the bulbs.

did you just transplant today or has she been in the bigger pot for a bit? just thought it was interesting cuz i transplanted today. Love how clean and neat you box is.....youve gotta have a background in fabrication right? or did you already speak to that? im trying my hand at dwc with my auto flower...i actually have no clue what im doing....will be interesting to see how things turn out. Your girl is feminized right? sorry for the scattershot im feeling pretty out of it

btw curious about your light setup...im only running one cfl with 2700k at 32watts (2255 lumens) and about 5cm above the plant on a 24 hour always on cycle......you think it would be better on a 20/4 instead?

Same pot since it sprouted. I've only got 1 plant and this is the biggest pot that will fit in there so there's no point in transplanting.

Thanks man, I've not got a background in fabrication at all but I've always been interested in building things, mostly electronics/computers but a bit of carpentry and metal fab along the way.
I just looked at alot of other setups and made sure I'd finished (most of it) before I planted. I've been caught out a before starting before I'm finished building and each time it's bit me on the ass. This time for example I'm still waiting on new fans that are quieter and faster, so now I've got heat issues.

I'm not up on autoflowers OR DWC, but if you check out HygroHybrid on youtube he's the freaking MASTER at DWC, it's a paid channel but he's got a few free vids and it's only $0.99 per month for about 200 vids, his website is also free with a whole bunch more FREE vids there http://hygrohybrid.com/.

This is Papaya Regular (not fem). I only ordered 5 seeds (of which only 2 are feminized) and I didn't want to put a guaranteed female into a brand new untested grow box incase it fucks up so I started with this as a "guinea pig grow".

I do think plants need rest, even autoflowers I'd go 20on/4off as opposed to 24 hour constant light.

Sweet box man. I know this might sound like a lot of work but fresh ice cubes or a ice pack always helped cool my grow closet when it gets too hot. Or a box fan blowing in your cases general direction but that might defeat your whole stealth theme.

Thanks man, it's still a work in progress but people seem to like it so I guess I'm on the right track.
I'm about to check on it for today, if the temps are still high I might use that ice pack idea as a stopgap solution.
The fans I have in there at the moment will keep the temps down when run at full speed, but they're really old so they're too loud to run at full speed.
I'm sure that when I get my new silent ones I'll be back to a nice temp.

But you've just given me an idea for when summer comes and it's 40*c OUTSIDE of the box.
I might run a few 12v peltier thermoelectric heat pumps in the intake as a mini aircon?
I guess the only thing I'd have to get around there is the condensation that might happen?

Anyway, thanks for stopping by and tanks for the input! :)

Temp today was good, about 28*c when I first opened up the box.
I think by the look of those cotyledon leaves the next watering will be it's first dose of nutes.
Great timing as I'm going away camping this coming weekend for 3 days, hopefully I'll come back to a HUGE change.
I'm liking the daily photo's as I can really keep an eye on things but it does make it seem to take longer.

I know it's really hard to be patient but I would wait at least 2 weeks or second sets of leaves before any nutes it may stunt or kill it this young. But that's just from my silly past mistakes maybe like a TINY bit of nutes with some root powder would be ok.

I'm talking 200ppm in about 2 days time. And it does have its 2nd set, off you look closely the 3rd set is coming in.

That's seems legit. I can't wait to see the rest of this grow. It inspired me to someday make my own pc grow box but I'm feeling a sever case is in order to fit my ufo led.

Hey man - I'm loving what you've done so far. Furthermore, your grow log is an absolute godsend for my educational purposes, and I'll explain why:

  • I have begun my own experimental grow around the same time as you. I planted 3 germinated seeds On 4/17, and they sprouted on 4/19.
  • I considered doing a PC case grow, but ended up deciding on a wardrobe-sized cabinet, because I thought it would be too small. I haven't even begun building it though - the babies are growing in the open on a shelf at the moment. I'm planning on buying a thrift store wardrobe on my next paycheck.
  • I considered ordering reliable seeds (as you have done), but I opted to use bagseed for a test run of my equipment and cabinet (whenever its ready).
  • My 3 plants are all in the same 3 gallon fabric pot, whereas you are doing a single-plant grow.
Between the two of our grows, we seem to be covering all of the techniques that I considered using. Since I chose not to do pretty much everything that you are doing, your journal is going to be a great filler for the knowledge I would have gained had I chose the same techniques. And since we started at the same time, I can monitor the differences in realtime. Breeder seed vs bag seed. PC case vs cabinet. 3 in 1 fabric pot vs 1 in 1 plastic pot.
Furthermore, you seem to have done everything spot-on, so I can totally trust your results.

It's also worth mentioning that I am doing this for the same reason you are - to escape the stress of buying up to an ounce a week. Fuck that shit.

Here's to the pursuit of knowledge, and to financial sustainability!

Thanks mate, one thought I had is to get a server set up just for flowering. If I find one cheap/free I will probably go that way.

Thanks for the thumbs up, I'm glad everyone seems to like my case.

I didn't order these, well I did, but not directly...lol, story time I guess.
Bit of a long story but I met a bloke when I was fishing one night, he asked me if I minded if he had a bong (middle of the night on a river bank so obviously I said go for it). Long story short he had some really nice smoke and that led to the topic of growing, told him my story and he offered to source some seeds for me in exchange for repairing a laptop he had with him back at his camp site.
I fixed it, said I want "2 low smell or fruity smell strains", he said he'd see what he could find. A few weeks later I'd totally forgotten about it and honestly never realistically expected to see him again. I'd really only fixed his laptop as it was a 2 min driver issue and he'd given me a couple bongs already. Any way, I bumped into him at the parking lot to the fishing spot and he pulled out a film canister with the baggies I took a photo of early in the grow. I was stoked! He gave me the seeds no charge! His only request was let him know how the strains go at the end of it.

... And that's how I started growing haha!

So no idea WHERE these strains came from, but the names are real strains by real seed banks so I guess they're legit?

I've not done everything spot on, I think the high heat and now sitting back from the light has really stunted the growth on this one. I think I'm well behind in size compared to other grows I've seen/done.
But I'm not in a hurry and it's still upright and green so I'm not too worried.

And HIGH FIVE for not having to buy any more!

Bit of a kick in the guts today guys. On the plus side I am VERY happy that I didn't use one of my feminized seeds as the test subject.
It's day fucking TEN and I've already got mould in here. Black dots everywhere.
IMG_1271.JPG
The room that I'm growing in has always had a problem with mould and mildew growing on the walls.
I thought the massive amount of airflow through the box might have been enough to stop this from happening. But alas, she's starting to mildew up already.
This is beyond fucked as it's really the only room I can grow in without being noticed.

I'm not about to rip it out of the soil and give up, I'll let it go for another week or 2 and see if the plant starts to fight it off later on.
BUT if I get mildew NOW imagine what it'll be like later on down the track, full bloom. then BAM mold up the ass!

IF this plant dies or just can't stop the mould from spreading I think I might have to re-think growing until I move house later this year.

Only other news for today is it got another watering, last one before it get's it's first dose of nutes 2-3days from now.

Oh man, that is heartbreaking =(

I know you want to try to save it as any good father would, but black mold ON the plant is usually a death sentence, especially at this early stage in life. The health to the smoker is also too high, even if the plant survives.

Truly heartbreaking. You built such a nice grow case and took such careful photos only to have this shit happen. Not to mention the wonderful story leading up to the operation. You mustn't give up! Find a way to reduce the mold risk - There's got to be something you can do for future grows.

looks like were both experiencing some setbacks.....although yours appears to not be your fault whereas i tolded screwed the pooch and burned the leaves on mine i guess by a combination of heat and light proximity. Anyway, its still alive but who knows for how much longer. Like you im gonna go ahead and just watch what happens....all we can do is live and learn right? keep on keepin on
