l.e.ds vs hps

When I used to grow with metal halide lights, ( back in the 80's), those bulbs had lost some brightness after the first grow, and were surprisingly dimmer after 2 grows, so much so that I only did 1 or 2 grows per bulb, having looked at lumen drop of graphs of HPS and HID charts, using one of those bulbs for years is robbing yourself of yield potential, I could not imagine using a bulb for 17 years,
its also fun to see people who I know use bulbs "like" the pro bulb responses, and the people I know who love and use LED like the pro led responses, its always enjoyable to watch the replies play out!!!!

[ feelQUOTE="HydroRed, post: 11517776, member: 899306"]I bought 2 1000W HPS & I paid $189 each for glass enclosed 6" vented hood/bulb and ballast brand new from the grow shop. Though I have an "indoor grow", it is still effected by outside temps. My HPS keep my room nice and warm in the fall/winter and early spring months basically for free. The fact I dont need any electricity sucking heaters in those months more than pays for itself vs the 25% savings on electricity. I dont know of anyone personally who put off more gram for gram with led than someone with HPS. Free heat/larger yields/and WAAAY lower initial cost....I'll stick with my HPS. Im not arguing that led wont grow, but they still have a long way before they are as reliable or effective as any HPS or MH. Hell, I see brand new 2015 cars with burned out led's in the tail lights and headlights and these car companies have spent millions upon millions of $$ on research and testing.....and they still cant keep them working. My old hps 400W was over 17 years old and just recently died. I paid $25 for it. How many led's you getting for $25 that will last that long?[/QUOTE]

I feel the same way hydro they are tanks like we said way back in the beginning tried and true my two thousands cost me
1827 Give or take a year to run
that's four takes a year out of hydro plus my soil plants but my aero alone yields me 8 pounds a year at least it's just apples to oranges the proof is in the pudding my friend and why hasn't anybody shown us different their are just telling us what they can do but not showing us what they can do I'm not slamm I nd led either because five years ago the discussion would have been hps all the way hands down but this day now we all look at them a little more serious because they are on the come up but and I'll say it again they just are not there yet the day they are and I have solid proof is the day that I will change but 2500 for a light and with the amps they way They are light bill would still 900 a year so 7800 a year at least for ur first year for less end result I'm good for now

+1g/W by almost everyone who tries... Go look at people growing with vero and cxa/cxb. You're nuts to think HPS will somehow yield better than cxb. (yes, I already know those cheap red +blue chinese panels won't produce... please do not show me those....)

Among other growers, you probably haven't noticed what @Greengenes707 is doing yet... This is 100% with leds. If you're going to tell me the buds are lacking, you need to humble yourself.

I grow with the exact same lamps and have very similar results (+1g/W even on grows I considered fuckups), although GG freaking kills it.

Outstanding truly impressive
where do u buy this lights church or are these DIY and the way he grows his stuff what is that three or four plants in that room a single dwc per plant that veggies for how long
to achieve that I don't disagree it's a beautiful garden flawless my point is church don't give all the credit to the lights because that's unfair they know what they are doing with growing

I hit 1.4 gpw my 4th run every growing. And I did it with 4000 watts. Since then 3 years now I have only got less than 1gpw twice. I do so with strictly hps. Like said above, everyone TELLS us what led can do, no one shows us. The video above was ok. My nugs are definitely larger with hps and I am growing OGs. The fact of the matter is.. I'm Not a closet grower.. And it would cost me upwards of 40,000 dollars just to switch my lights to leds .. That 40 grand could build 2 of the same rooms im working with top to bottom. this is where I would like everyone to look up the definition of efficiency... I run a business, I don't grow for fun, I don't grow so I can tell the person next to me that im badass with the new latest and greatest. I grow efficient. I try to keep my yearly costs as low as possible while getting my 4 batches done with the highest yield and best quality possible.

Can't you understand that with questions like this, you should be realizing you didn't actually know what you originally thought you knew? Before making such a ridiculous "4oz per plant" challenge" (if i read correctly), maybe do a little bit of research into it? I and many others with similar setups to greengenes (vero, cxa/cxb) have been knocking it out of the park every single run, yet still have people making these bizarre challenges. 4oz per plant with LED is the same as 4oz per plant with HPS. It's hardly a challenge. It's easy for someone that knows what they're doing.

With certain white led setups, you get HPS like results for significantly less input power. No compromise. There is no lack of penetration or "small buds".... but I can't vouch for people not using white vero, cxa/cxb at underdriven currents. You aren't even looking for pictures. Not all LEDs are the same.

Please edit your post for spelling and grammar. I'm sorry, but I can not read that. You might want to start with punctuation. Without doing this, I will have a hard time deciphering your thoughts. You are being anything but clear.

Everybody got everything up to this point. But I guess now we are just hitting at whatever we can. Just show me ur stuff.
There are pictures of my latest grows using LEDs here.

(240W of vero 18 at 700mA)

https://www.rollitup.org/t/is-it-worth-investing-in-led.866860/page-4#post-11483507

You should also check out positivity's grows and other people using either vero, cxa/cxb.. It's not that other leds might not also be as good as those, it's just that those ones are the ones that currently have solid results behind them.

That middle plant was the majority of the entire canopy, easily over 4ounces.

Thank you!

DIY vero 18 3500k80 cri driven at 700mA with 91% efficient HLG-C drivers. The other build over the new plants in flowering are cxb2530 3000k 80cri U2 bin driven at 500mA with a larger 94% efficient HLG-C driver. Most of what's going on in the LED section now is people helping each other out to build these and picking the best parts. The difference in quality is so huge, it's not even worth using LED in the first place imo if you don't DIY.

For every 1 video I see about how awesome led is, I see 10 showing HPS trumping an led system. Just to clarify about my previous post, I had the 400W hood/ballast for 17 yrs...not the bulb. I can however show proof of my grows and what I get with HPS and have yet to see anyone personally grow anything better or heavier with led's. This is just one of 8. All bud-no scrubs. And I have a fraction of what a "good" led system cost in my hps setup. If it aint broke -dont fix it? And yes werm11 free heat lol. It may seem funny but its true. I dont have to run heaters at all when I'm in veg and only 12 hrs a day when in flower. Savings are savings no matter how you look at it. Might not be suitable for everyone else, but it works great for me.20150414_214739.jpg

Bro you gotta be kidding. Your pics are nice but if you haven't seen led grown flowers just as nice or "better" you haven't really had a good look around.

About that 4oz plant challenge...beginners grow 4oz plants with Chinese leds. There are journals galore online.
