also question on the 55 ro drying zone. ive read that once it drops below 55% the cure is done and can not be restarted. soooo after i finish my initial trim and jar, is the initial humidity supposed to be above 55 already or am i jarring to get it there and then insure that it doesnt fall below 55? i just trimmed and jarred and everything is sitting right at about 48. hasnt ever been past 55 which is the reason im asking

Wait... Did you let it dry out too much? which would void post #2. Post # 2 would be valid if ones on top of their shit.

A percent of moisture is required to keep stomatas open and maintain gas transfer. Think of it like a cutting, its still alive. 40% is about the limit. During this process respiration and hydrolysis break down the plant, starches sugars nitrates chlorophyll etc. This is an aerobic process obviously, you dont want to just jar at the right rh. Mold of any type wont typically grow under 60%. You want as much moisture as possible without it molding and good airflow, along with low temps- low 70's. Higher temps volatize terps and speed the bacterial break down of the plant, thats what makes brick weed yellow then turn brown, you want the plant to break it down.

Which is best depends i guess..

Too short of a dry will give you mould. That destroys your bud. Too long of a dry means you need one bovida pack per half lb of bud in a gallon bag. Smell usually comes back a bit.

For anyone who has the problem of drying to fast, my self, I am in a basement with normally 35-45% rh. I have a small indoor green house with a zip up front and several racks, I just hang my flowers and throw a hygrometer in there, normally stays at about 65-70 rh, if it gets to high I just open the door and air it out a bit and seal Iit back up.

If it were to still stay to low, I have a humidifier hooked up to it (I made it for fruiting fungi) and you could easily hook up a controller and get it perfect if one were so inclined. Same goes with if it were way to humid, hook up a dehumidifier and controller.

Yeah i use my 4x8 tent. Had to go out of town for one day. Figd it be ok. The humidfier i use has a built in controller to set it. Shame it ran out of water. I'm in basement as well. Sits right around 48. Prob why thats where everything measured when i put them in jars.

I found that since i harvested everything a few days apart that each time i added new buds it helped keep the humidity up, not sure what I'll do for the last one lol I'm gonna have like a 5 week gap after my last one come down till I start taking down the newest batch, got 1 skunkage 5 mango tango 1 blueberry headband 5 pineapple chunks 1 starbud and 1 burmese kush to rround it out

Both are equally fucked. I guess if you dry to short you can still watch it and let it dry slower vs too long. If it's personal use it might not matter to some if it's bone dry or mold. If you donate that Shit forget about it, you can't give it away at either point.

I've let buds hang for months due to laziness (years ago) and they smoked just fine. It really doesn't matter if it dries for too long.. If you dry it for too short, you will have problems.

if i were going to make an error in drying which is best? too wet or too dry?
just keep the rooms rh at 50% ....keep it dark ...keep air moving
7 days of that and u can smoke it or leave it in there for months cure it in there

just those 3 factors and temps under 80F- above 65F .........think of it like a humidor for weed /drying/curing room

Its already going until it dips and stomatas close halting gas exchange. But this doesnt happen till about 40%.. and as church eluded, this doesnt mean all processes come to a screeching stop.

no ........u can modify your cut for times like those ......leave just alittle in the stem so when u jar it up releases they are little less crispy and get a good cure

http://www.amazon.com/Boveda-62-Percent-Humidifier-Dehumidifier-12-Pack/dp/B00CPPG23M

if need be can use one of those in the jar for like 2 days bring it up take it out and let the process go .........after 8 weeks it normally does not matter anymore this is just for when u are starting

the 50% rh is the just the golden zone u are safe in 5% flux any way

40% as he said closes and get a hay smell to the dry
41 to 59% ok 50 % is golden zone
60% is danger zone mold can attach and wreck the whole thing (if mold does happen it must be tossed no smoking it no blowing it no cooking it FLUSH IT DOWN THE TOILET) if u do not listen and use it can cause very bad infections and other sickness
