Argh, you guys broke my willpower. I was holding out for a potential 4/20 promo, but the @provisionseeds deal that @FrozenChozen posted was just too good to pass up, and I broke down and ordered a 10 pack of the Purple Widow. Now I'm gonna have to do some begging to the wife to let me drop some more dough around the end of april, but we'll burn that bridge when we come to it. For now, I'm stoked about the Purple Widow! Think it would do okay outdoors (Mainly worried about mold since I'm coastal norcal) if I ran it this summer, or should I wait til winter and run it inside where I can control the humidity?
Since we don't know how your weather is, Its safe to say indoors would be better. Have you tried to trim the outdoors so theres more air flow in and out of the plant to help with that problem?

Well I've only done one run outdoors, but I was just using bagseed from what wound up being chunky sativas that wanted to go late into november and I got absolutely swamped by mold, but I am optimistic that with the right genetics (mainly sticking to late september/early october finishers) and a good bit of topping and training (And, if necessary, even the addition of a couple outdoor fans during late flowering to keep the air circulating over night) I will be able to overcome. On paper the weather is pretty much ideal
------------------------------------------------Jul----Aug----Sep----Oct---Nov---Dec
Average high in °F:-----------------------75-----76------76-----73-----67-----62
Average low in °F:------------------------54-----54------53-----49-----45-----41
Av. precipitation in inch:-----------------0-----0.04----0.28---1.46---3.74---5.67

Except that I'm RIGHT on the coast, so at night the marine fog rolls in and the humidity jumps up to 80-90% until the sun comes out and burns it off, and those late october showers don't help at all.

That must be why I get away with barely putting any nutes it, mines right around the same. You learn something new everyday, all I knew was that the plants didn't seem to mind and that I don't need to have a calmag supp so I never questioned it
Yikes, my aquarium water is only 70ppm...

your solution is to try an earlier flowering period.

Honored to be listed with that group above. Wanna go on about how great you all are but I'm crazy busy this weekend for once. Much love :peace:

Ok, so just a question... are males technically disqualified or do people just USUALLY pick females for the contest? Just wondering, thought it might be an interesting wrinkle if someone grew a real solo cup stag as their entrant. It's so rare to see males in full bloom that I could see it taking high honors.

@Ace Yonder

  • Start a maximum of 5 seeds total, keep only 1 female plant for entry once sex has shown for all (5).
Page 1 post 1....

Do you think there will be another contest later this year or next year?
This one should be winding down by the end of may...
1-1-15 to 1-31-15 Registration
2-1-15 to 2-28-15 Gemination
3-1-15 to 5-17ish-15 Competition
5-17ish to 5-31-15 2 week voting

6-1-15 to 6-30-15 Registration for 7th party cup

These dates are a tentative expectation, not set in stone! It typically takes (without me asking @bryleetch :P) about 12 weeks for a seed to finish in a 16oz cup... There have only been a few late bloomers this time, and I'd like to see 2 of these done a year! It would really get some great exposure for some awesome companies, and make a few growers very happy!

Friday night update. (I think that's the right night at least.) Down 2 girls. Had a few family emergencies this week so was away for a good portion of it.

Both of the deep purples are gone. :(

I left the lights too far above while gone and one of the POKs stretched like crazy. I'll be adding a support for her but the other didn't do too bad just seems a bit behind at this point.

Should be able to nurse them back as I'll be around now.

In that second pic, the stretchy seedling looks like it's using its cotyledon to salute.
