Did I just waste $100 or what?

I have 1 400 watt HP's system in a 3x3x6 grow and was thinking about expanding my room as I am waiting on my seeds to arrive. Found a 300 watt vipar for $100 shipped and pulled the trigger. I was concerned with the heat built up with another hps. Will this light help or did I just torch a Franklin?

I don't have any experience with Viper products, but in general LEDs do make less heat than HPS. If your HPS light has a separate ballast, you could install the ballast outside of the grow area to save on some heat. You won't know anything for sure until you install em in and stick a thermometer in there.

If it's too hot, maybe you can use a light to set up a separate veg area.

3x3 area that's 6 ft. tall? You don't need much more than that 400 hps imo...600w apollo hps was a little 2 hot for my 3x3 tent and way overkill.

There's a lot of options for cooling / dealing with temp so I wouldn't say you wasted your $100, but I'm not sure you needed another light in there - Could always get another tent ;)

i would imagine the 300w led will be similar in performance to the 400w hps with regards to yield. it will run cooler and obviously use less juice out of the wall

because it's not as hot as a hid bulb you will be inclined to bring it closer but from my limited knowledge of led lighting, you can get the plants show deficiencies and even get completely bleached if you don't pay close attention.

usually led lighting is at least 2ft away and hid (600w or less) is within 2ft.

if running a perpetual you could maybe use the led on the shorter plants in early flower and move them across as they grow to finish under hid, mixed spectrum can give some incredible results over single source lighting.

Be careful about what you give away. I can't figure out what you mean be 300w viper and that is a good thing. If I knew what product exactly you were looking at I could probably find your ebay username from the info you provided, assuming it's not a private listing....

I'm going to expand my grow to 5x3 is why I am buying the new light. I like the idea of having a perpetual harvest. I have a T5 that I veg under anyway. Thanks for the heads up nomofatum
