Gavita double ended...

@OP: Unless you're trolling and want to get entertained with fairytales from led shills and fanboys this is not the place to ask about professional horticulture lighting such as Gavita.

Repost ->Interesting post from Beta Test Team in IC. Something I have been howling about for some time, when a manufacturer claims 96% reflectivity here is how that translates for HPS, keeping in mind that even less actually reaches the canopy

Greenbeams with Philips Green Power CMH 315W
-- Greenbeams reflective material reflectivity, according to Cycloptics: 95%
-- Relative amount photons emitted by the lamp that exit the reflector after a single bounce, according to Cycloptics: 95%
-- Relative amount of photons emitted by the lamp that exit the reflector, according to Cycloptics: 92.3%
-- Relative amount of photosynthetic photons emitted by the lamp (400-700nm) that exit the reflector: 76.84%
-- Reduction in photosynthetic photons (400-700nm) exiting the reflector as compared to emitted by the lamp: 23.16%

Gavita PRO DE HPS 1000W
-- Gavita 'HortiStar' reflective material reflectivity, according to Gavita: 96%
-- Relative amount photons emitted by the lamp that exit the reflector after a single bounce: unknown
-- Relative amount of photons emitted by the lamp that exit the reflector: unknown
-- Relative amount of photosynthetic photons emitted by the lamp (400-700nm) that exit the reflector: 80.95%
-- Reduction in photosynthetic photons (400-700nm) exiting the reflector as compared to emitted by the lamp: 19%

Better off getting advice from HPS shills

one of the key features of the gavita pro is the hortistar 96 reflector, made from some special micro aluminium and "96" because it results in 96% of the light to be directed towards the plants. It technically cannot be cleaned without damaging it (they litterally mention that on the site), soft dry or damp cloth if you have too. The reflector itself should be replaced (easy job) ideally once a year.

I honestly don't know much about Gavita. All I know is that it's not cxb 3000k top flux bin ;)

IMAG0306.jpgIMAG0310.jpg

193W of power dissipated, 94.8W of PAR output.

@SupraSPL or @alesh , if you want, please explain why the cxb2530 3000k 80cri u2 bin at 500mA and Tc=35C has an efficiency of 49.1% I know that number was not derived from a fairytale. How do you go about calculating LER and using it to find radiant watts output?

well it's misleading. I've got a tent full of buds a few days away from maturing under 240W of vero 18 white leds at 700ma that totally disagree with sativied's picture. "LED grown" means absolutely nothing, which is the point he fails to understand. I'm not just "Growing with leds", I'm growing with vero 18 and top bin 3000k cxb2530.

I used to only use HPS since overgrow still existed and it was great. The only thing HPS still has going on for it is it's low start-up cost.. It will still wreck T5, both startup cost and results.

It's already clear to me from personal experience that even vero 18 at 700mA is enough to beat HPS. Knowing that, I don't have a doubt in my mind that top bin cxb chips will produce even better than vero 18. And I will have first hand experience with "buds days from harvest" with the cxb in about 8-9 weeks.

You should put pictures of positivity's grow in the right panel. I'd post impressive bud pictures from positivity's cxa grows myself, but ... they're not my pictures!

I already showed you mine.. although I guess not recently.. I think you're afraid the results will be better than HPS. :P

Can't really recommend any commercial LEDS yet.

Supra likes the optic but I'm not quite sold on it yet

If your serious about it someone could probably build you or help you to build your own light.

Since your in a cold environment you could design a cob light to run a bit warmer to help with room temps

Very serious,it's not a commercial grow, just A too many strain grow, can't really figure out how I want to grow the plant, grows....

Thanks for the information..

I'm looking forward to seeing what the green dudes at Area 51 have been secretly perfecting....

Maybe they'll take your unique approach, Poz, and implement monochromatic LEDs alongside COBs within their designs.

And I'm not sold on Optic as well. I have nothing against Optic, besides their use of the dull briefcase looking frame.

I do know that there are bound to be better designs and companies on the horizon, besides Area 51, that will offer the user higher levels of functionality within the green room.

I expect landfall to take place at the beginning of summer.
