First time growing

Im trying to set up a grow in the closet of my bedroom closet and need some ideas.

1: I'm planning on using a 1000w metal halide light

2: Should I line the room with mylar?

3: What is the best was to receive ventilation to the room without cutting into the wall?

Basically Im trying to set up a grow room in my bedroom in the upper level of the house. It is the only place in the house where powdery mildew will not be a problem. Im looking for the best options with setting it up. I have never grown before.

Also what type of soil/fertilizers work well? I am growing from clones so I will be skipping the veg stage for my first grow.

Just looking for ideas from more experienced growers.

1000w could give you probs in a closet. Being you are on the top floor, I would cut a whole in top of the closet to the attic I presume. When you are all done it is a quick fix to patch it. Although mold/mildeway be less of a problem it can rear its head anywhere. An oz. Of prevention....gl

well to answer your question without giving inaccurate info we need some specs what’s the dimensions of your grow space? you wanting to go indica or sativa ? yes mylar is always a good idea.I agree with @old shol4evr fox farms ocean forest and happy frog at a 1:1 ratio but i would suggest you do a little reading on the organic section of the forums and read up on soil amendments.Amending your soil will stretch your soil further before you will need to add any nutes.

Yeah, mylar! You don't want everyone else to have all of the hot spots in their closets. For ventilation, I suggest breathing on your clones. The added co2 should get you up to the pound you're going to harvest from those clones w/ no veg time. For your growing media, you should use bacon, just the big slabs, don't use slices. You'll get more flavor from the slabs. The best fertilizer for you should be imagination. Start taking yoga, and when it comes down to meditating time, you should concentrate on your plants growing up big and strong, like sequoias. If that doesn't work fast enough, try ocean water, I think that is where kelp is grown and that is the fastest growing plant in the world.

Seriously, semi-gloss white paint or white plastic panda paper would be better for your plants. You might want to veg them for a few weeks. A thousand watts in your bed room is going to be warm during the summer. You might want to cut a hole like @insidagain says and get some exhaust fan w/ a scrubber. For media, I would go for a mix of perlite and coco. Fertilizers? You might want to try the canna line of nutes. That is, if you're going to use the coco coir. Good luck and enjoy your grow.

Depending on the size of your closet, a 1000 watter is going to give you a lot of heat in that closet which will need to be vented out. Your gonna have to cut a hole preferably near the ceiling to exhaust that heat. Once you have that done, ventilation will be simple. I also agree with the posts above regarding using Fox Farms soils and mylar for wall covering

Spot on. But I think you may wanna use kosher bacon for best results.

I was thinking of using a 2 x 2.5 x 5'7" gorilla tent. How many plants would fit?
Also what would be the best light option. I will keep the tent in my room, would it be sufficient to vent the air that way?

1000w in a 2x2 tent. You'll be able to bake brownies in there :) Have you turned on your light yet? It will be very hot. In that size tent you could use a 400w and it'd be overkill not to mention challenges of fitting a hood and ventilation in there I would suspect.

Get a 400w HID ballast with an air cooled hood. Pick up a 6" fan and carbon scrubber. Get the 3x3 tent. you'll be able to fit 4 mid sized plants in 3 gallon pots in there. Make sure to check the height of the strain when ordering seed. Top them when they hit the 5th node. Top again.

I havent bought the light yet. You would suggest a 400w light in a 3x3 room? Im trying to find the best option before I buy.

Yes, or 600w in a 4x4. with air cooled hood or cool tube.... That heat has to go somewhere though.. 400w will heat your room a few degrees if not vented out somehow.

My top pick would be an area 51 LED RW150 in a 24 x 30 space.. Make the tent yourself out of PVC and Panda Film. Will cost about $60 in materials. Why do i recommend this light? Because you won't spend every day stressing about heat issues. It will also save you on electricity. It's not difficult for a very small grow to add $70-$100 per month to your electricity bill depending on where you live. I can't imagine what running a 1000w light would cost me in my arrea. I could never disperse that much heat though so it doesn't matter.

area 51 lamp is probably the top pick for LED's amongst growers on this forum. You can't go wrong with it. It's well priced also.

Even using CFL you will have heat issues.. Heat issues just suck. It's a constant source of worry in small grows.
