Winterizing CO2 CBD oil

Ok finish winterizing process - ethanol 95% denatured isopropanol 5% ,ratio 10-1, -25°C, 52 hours, filtered with buchner 10 microns coffee filter or whatman1 on vacuum (with pression of water system) and the result was not perfect, not much better than with isopropanol for my opinion with this first test. But it seems like the problem is the filter too big. 10 microns, the solution it's so speedy filtered and the vacuum process take the solution very well then the filter process will be different.. without vacuum, it filtered better! I will take another filter size, what size you recommend? I hav seen on forum anything like 0,2 microns was used.. And maybe à syringe filter will be a good deal but it's expansive..

Freeze your funnel and filters to keep the wax from melting and going back in solution.

We use Whatman #1 and a vacuum assist. Once you build a cake, the cake is the filter.

The WW Mk VII inline dewaxing system is designed to use a roughing bag filter and then one full of 5 micron glass beads.

CFBF, does Cox offer a 4" bag filter with a 6" sanitary gasket attached at the open end, so it can fit into a 6" sanitary spool?

Dilute ur oil in 191 everclear. Shake well. Put in freezer for 2 days. Do not touch. Strain though 1 coffee filter like this. Pour in a lil of your frozen mixture slowly. And after it has strained that small amount squeeze out the remainder and put on a new coffee filter for each lil new bit u strain usually 4 filters for an amount like in that jar.refreeze that batch if you want and restain or pour in pyrex dish infront of fan on low let dry and scrape thats my method.

Hi guys,
I'm trying to winterize CO2 CBD oil (20%CBD 1%THC). This oil have many waxes. So i've tried to winterize it (48h, -20ºC ) and coffee filter it. But so many waxes keeps in the filtered solution. Do i winterize it more and more times until it is clear? Im looking for infos about winterizing this special oil (CO2 CBD oil).
Thank's!
Bro, once the cbd had been taken from the raw extract, the specific temperature is 151-153F, if you purge in hot water above 153F the cbd becomes weaker and starts melting or vaping away depending on how hot its temperature is. Don't doctor up a cbd fraction, even if its as low as 20%cbd. So don't try to make it better, you can't. Shit isn't going to get you high anyways!

Hi dude,
thank's for your post!
can't understand what you mean.. specific temperature of what? CBD boiling point is more less 350F.. What you mean with CBD fraction? And depending CO2 extracts, i've already made some gold oil, with certainly up 80% CBD.. Depending the quality of that CO2 extract, it is easy or not to winterize and separate well the wax, fats from cannabinoïds and sequiterpens.

Nobody understands his posts.
Not even him
maybe needs big shoot of CBD..lol
Those CO2 extracts are made with entire hemp plants, leaves.. The amount of waxes and chloro are high and those CBD oil productors could made better quality (taste essentially) oil making only buds extraction. My project is CBD eLiquid and the taste is what i'm working for..I've making some solvent hemp bud extractions and the taste is very nice..But with entire plant CO2 oil, not the same taste at all..

I was going to ask if it was hemp. I don't remember this thread too much lol but I deduced from high cbd and waxes it was.
I don't have any direct experience with this, but not extracting the fats in the first place is best, winterizing won't remove the lighter oils. I take it you have hemp? Using a very cold relatively polar solvent is great, you can then remove the chlorophyll. A whole plant extraction will never be that great though. And if your purchasing the co2 cbd oil I don't really know what to tell you. You can still winterize as you've done, but that won't remove everything. You can still remove the chlorophyll pretty easily. Anything else will take more time experience and money or equipment.
Well good luck

Cbd mp is 151-153F and the melted portion in that specific temperature is when poured off is what is fractionated. Winterization calls for - 52C, which is fucking cold.

Thank's all

I'm (still..) waiting for a 2micron filter and will use a vaccum pump and erlenmeyer to see what happend..
Pros of this CO2 oil is CBD contain.. My hemp is 2% CBD, 0.5% THC and if i want a big amount of CBD 20% for exemple is ok, but 5% THC is too high (Switzerland law is max THC 1%) and CO2 oil is 20% CBD and 1%THC, come from Germany and dont know what strain of hemp he use to have this ratio..

I just buy some material lab stock good very good price all of this for 800$.. I need just many glasses..and learn to use it..but i will.. It's my new job lol))

Just for begin ( dont have glass for Buchi) i want use these old exicator ( left on image) to evaporate the solvent..
My question is, when im using these pump ( on image center) to do the vaccum, goes the solvent vapor aspirate with that pump? It is ok for the pump? Or i need a system too keep the solvent separate?

Hey izneb, any updates on this case?

I also got hands on a 5g sample of a wholeplant hemp CO2 extract.
Just mixed it with Primasprit (96,x%) and let it sit for a couple of days in the freezer (-18).
Try to winterize it and try to imprive the qulity and reduce the amount of waxes and chlorophyl.

I bought a syringe filter (0,2um)at the pharmacy. I´ll winterize that mess, coffee filter it prolly couple of times and the try the syringe filter! Let´s see what happens :-D

You already bought nice equipment there. Looks like a rotovap in the middle!
And to answer your question (hope it´s not to late), yes the solvent vapor can dmage your pump, you´ll need one of those solvent proof pumps!

Cheers

Hi CosmicBandit, thank's for your post!

Ok nice work with Syring filter! I think you will have good results.. but it's not very slow and hard to press it? Never tried it.. And i have a big amount to filter.. like 200 grammmes oil every week.. in project..
Now just finish to winterize (3weeks -25°C) and filter on freezed buchner with freezed whatman 5 (2microns) with vacuum pump, result was ok but not perfect still some waxes and fats..on image you can see result of rest of waxes/fats and on other image result after ethanol evaporation. It look like gold but...still some impurities when mixed with propylen can see it..

And thank's for transmitting your the pump knowledges no it was not to late!

Looks good!
One idea to minimize the amount of waxes is to keep it even colder! Ideal would be -52°C for 48h!
Or you try dry ice, that should work as well and way faster!

Below are some pics of progress i´ve made.

I mixed the raw Co2 extract with Primasprit and kept it in the freezer (which is maximum -15°C), though some waxes coagulated.
Next step coffee filter that nasty wax out and prepare it for the syringe filter.
Surprisingly the Syringe filter worked well. I didn´t use a lotof pressure went down pretty smooth.
Evap in a pyrex dish and then try to scratch it out! Now I have that sticky goey mess in my fridge.

I think i`ll try the same as you and make an e-liquid for my little e-cig!
You just mix it with PEG 400? What ratio?

Good job! With Syringe it seems optimal!
Yes mix it with USP Propylen Glycol it's ok, PEG 400 i've tried but not ok with taste but have heard there's various form of PEG 400 (Macrogolum?!) and not so easy to find it. And now i stay with PG..
Ratio.. Yes dependind the % of your CBD gold but from 2% to 5%-10% CBD it's ok for an eLiquid! If your gold is 90% CBD just put 10ml PG for 1g oil to have some 9-10% CBD ejuice!
Warm PG and oil separately at 70°C befor mix!
And dont forget of course to decarb your oil befor mix with PG!
