Why Are Gas Prices So Low?

Umm just to point out Saudi's well have been running for 75 years or so, if not longer and still producing. There are still Iraqi fields almost as large [2x] just coming online as of 2013......they will wait it out for decades.....

then shale oil will become like the endless amounts of coal we have, but don't use because it aint worth it....
The use of coal was legislated out of the market, not because of its value. Coal is still the primary fuel for electricity generation.

The question isn't why are prices so low now. That is a supply and demand feature.

The under the surface question is why would some oil producers increase supply so much as to drop crude prices? Under that rock you might find USA protection of the dollar thru its puppets. If / when the dollar ceases to be used for oil transactions, things get interesting.

The petrodollar may be on its way to unraveling finally, which is a shitty situation for us in America because who knows what is going to happen if our currency drops as the worlds reserve.

One possible outcome is a diversion (war). Big pigs do not like other pigs nosing into "their" slop.

As we speak China and Russia are dumping US dollars and buying gold. In some circles this as known as the chickens coming home to roost.

Follow the money. See that U.S dollar? Watch it shrink before your eyes after the Petro dollar is challenged or replaced by other currencies.

Any challenge to status quo will be met/mitigated/undermined/attacked/destablized/etc. to tamp down shifts until banksters/big oil/ oligarchs, etc again gain control. Powers that be will not let oil profits move far from their orbit...

The dollar has been losing value for years. Measuring it against other currencies that are devalued as well, is a false read of the value.

It should be measured in what it will buy. Seen anymore nickel candy bars lately? Why is that?
Blatantly false. The dollar is now HIGHER against all major foreign currencies.

But, you know, go ahead and make up your own 'facts'. No one will notice.

Yup the dollar has had a nice run. I see this topic and no one asked why gas was so expensive in the first place? It's just sludge pumped out of the ground and distilled into fuel.

I will chime in with my worthless opinion. The price of certain commodities is set by manipulators who have the wealth to set it. OPEC is a collaboration. Those guys are so filthy rich they don't need any more money. And Bush was an oil man.

One more thing. If the price of oil, just a sludge pumped out of the ground and distilled as much used fuel can plummet over 60% just because everyone realized there is an over abundance of it? Consider what could happen to marijuana prices as the industry becomes more and more accepted and mature? $3000 a pound? I don't care how good and well grown marijuana is, that is way overpriced because of the black market nature of it. I see $50 ounces of top shelf coming. Maybe this year after the summer harvest in Colorado. Tax not included in that $50. Just wholesale.

full legalization on the federal level will lead to ADM and Phillip Morris getting into the game, and at the same time expect new regulations making it very hard to grow your own without regulation and licensing fees

I think the industry will mature more like the produce companies or perhaps alcohol companies rather than than like the tobacco companies.

Think of name brands like Valencia, Sunkist or Chiquita.

If you think about alcohol products like Whiskey, they age that stuff for years. So, it's not like a lot of time and effort isn't put into, yet it is far more affordable than marijuana that merely needs to be grown harvested and cured.

Uraguay, $1. gram outdoor at retail outlet. Paraguay $.06 gram outdoor, to black market.I figure my homegrow under cfl runs about $.70 gram. Prices should level at slightly above, anywhere outdoor/greenhouse/homegrow is allowed.

Maybe overall, but the tobacco industry is stratified to meet the tastes and price points of consumers from generic cigarettes to $2500 boxes of premium hand rolled cigars. This industry will be no different.

That is name branding. Like alcohol as well. But at least alcohol is aged for years. I wear the cheapest jeans Walmart sells. They are comfortable and last for years. Levi's? Meh. I rarely wear the ones I own. I am more comfortable in the cheapies.

Marijuana is easy to grow like tomatoes or many other veggies. When you lift the black market? And people discover this? Why would they pay $50 an 1/8th? I think watching the Colorado fall harvest will be a tell. If everybody and there brother grows outdoors this summer, which I feel could happen, and all of a sudden you got all this abundance of MJ and competition. I think wholesale prices will fall.

Like the oil panics of the past were overly dramatized, which drove gas prices through the roof, eliminating the marijuana black market will cause prices to plummet.

Oil is just sludge pumped out of the ground and refined. Marijuana is just a plant that is easily grown. You can learn all about it on the Internet afterall.
