This is the e-torch I use, you just hover it over the bowl and inhale, basically your inhaling the heat and such and the hot air vapes the material. Works pretty well. I've done direct dabs on it as well buttttt it was ok for that part lol.

I've smoked joints for 40 years and switched over to vaping cause i was getting a little wheezy. Don't particularly like the taste and the high seems different, but I can breathe easier. Use a Pax and Volcano.
I've never really heard of anyone not liking the taste of bud being vaped, any particular reason why? I do agree, the high is different than combustion.

Maybe not liked is a little strong, more like the smoke from a joint feels "richer" on the tongue. I started with the vaping about a year ago and have only smoked three different strains so far. All kind of tastes the same to me yet joints have individuality. Make sense?

War Machine- Would that combust a bowl if you let it? Cool way to burn a bowl without Butane
Yup, easily can combust a bowl if you'd like with it. I actually do that from time to time. I'll sometimes vape the bowl, then at the end combust it.

I made my own first vaporizer, that used dual quartz bulbs and a test tube, to vaporize bud or concentrates at will, and have had a couple different ones given to me, in addition to there originally being a digital Volcano going at the pharm.

I vote with my feet, and what I use is a DIY electronic nail, for all around best utility as far as prep and cleanup.

I love the taste of bud, but don't get the same flavors and effect vaporizing it, as burning it.

I also don't get the same effects from vaporizing oil as bud, and no longer get high on either, but like the ease of use and dosing with concentrates in general and have developed a palate for them.

I took 40g of some avb, already vaped bud, made some oil with it (30 minute soak with butane) and got back ~3.3-3.5g so roughly a 8% yield. Kinda glad I didn't yield much because that means I didn't vape most of it! They were prime prime buds that would of yielded at leasttttt 15% if not 18-20%. The oil is good.I would compare it to reclaim to be honest, which always has a spot in my heart. And lungs :-)

Anyone know why a Volcano inflames my throat and makes me cough more than smoking bowls? I'd love to switch to vaping, but even at different settings, with different herbs/kief, it scratches my throat dangit.
That is most likely the monoterpenes being vaporized first. After the first couple of hits it usually becomes very smooth.
Too bad that by the time you've done enough minutes at temp you've already inhaled the majority of the oil in the form of acetates.
Personally I believe that if it vaporizes then it is decarbed. THC-A bonds together so in order to vaporize it must break those bonds and the acetate is part of that. Don't quote me its just an opinion at this point. I think the difference in high comes from the other components that are vaporized after most of the THC. Caryophyllene is one that comes to mind. It doesn't vaporize until 515°F

First, I am baked. I have been hitting my vape for a few hours now. It is the weekend.

A lot of times I will smoke a joint on the weekend. This weekend I chose to hit on my pen vape with e-cannabis oil.

There have been a lot of good points brought up on this thread and good information too.

I surely do not have all of the answers.

There are a lot I would like to quote, but just too many.

I will however, put in my two cents.

Let's start with vaping buds. I have tried it and am not really a fan of it. Just did not like it. I don't hate it, just not satisfying for me. One of the issues was the taste. Most of my buds gave a funny popcorn taste. Querkle is the only strain I have that was exotic in the vaporizer. More like a sour, oily popcorn. Anyway, the buzz was good and all, but it seemed like something was missing. I ended my bud vaping experience soon after trying it back in 2010, maybe 09.

Now I don't look at it the same. I don't have much more experience with vaping bud, but I do have more experience and knowledge. Vaping bud is medicinal. It is an extremely different effect compared to smoking buds, and possibly oils. I have learned with straight up experience the product being untainted with heat, and consumed, you are surely consuming many more medicinal qualities of the plant. Maybe you are not getting all of it with the vape, but with the leftovers you can consume it in other manners so you get all of the medicinal properties of the plant.

In my experience with oils, I have truly learned that any tampering with heat, you start seriously losing medicinal qualities. I notice it in the buzz alone. I could tell if I ate a dose of naturally decarbed oil (no heat in the process) or RSO. Taste alone I can tell the difference, let alone the buzz. There is something different about it if it has not been heated. It strongly effects the buzz effects. Oils that contain all of the medicinal properties, like terpenes, monoterpenes, etc., there is something in there that for the first 12 hours of the buzz after ingesting the oil, it makes it more comfortable compared to a heat produced concentrate. Comfortable is an understatement. It does not seem that there is something missing, it seems more like there is something overlapping the THC buzz. I can't really explain it except for that it is different. With naturally decarbed oil, the buzz lasts twice as long. Half the buzz is altered by the additional medicinal properties, which I believe to be terpenes or the fact that there was no heat used in producing the oil that effected something else in the medicine. The second 12 hours from the same dose, which I would not have received from a heat produced concentrate, it feels more like an intense heat produced concentrate buzz. I am more stoned feeling. I would not have had this extra 12 hour buzz from a heat produced concentrate. All I would have received is an intense 12 hour buzz.

My point of bringing up the oil is there is something in the bud that when consumed undamaged, has a drastic effect on the buzz. It also carries more medicinal properties, like terpenes. So I guess what I am trying to say is over the years I have learned of the true medicinal value of marijuana, which is very important. Being able to control the temperatures and consume the desired medicinal properties, or all of the products from the bud without combustion is a big improvement to the medicinal properties and values. We are kind of comparing medicine to recreational. I love smoking a hooter here and there. Nothing really makes up for smoking that premium joint here and there. I really don't need it. Vaping and eating the oil, or even eating naturally decarbed buds, medicinally it is the only way to go.

Some people ask me why I would use a premium ganja oil and add chemicals to it. They don't understand. This chemical can make all the difference in regards to e-cannabis oil vaping for many different reasons. It is the only true way to vaporize oils at a steady consistent temperature and you can rely on the medicinal effects. You can reasonably, accurately consume it. These certain chemicals that are used in e-cigarettes can offer many benefits. Vaporize at a lower temperature and achieve a higher quality medicinal effect. Help absorb into the body easier. You can more easily regulate your consumption for long term use. Not to mention the stealth benefits.

Eating the buds can maybe offer the most benefits. Whether they are naturally decarbed or fresh. Probably a mix of both would be best.

I had to vote "Vaporizing Rocks". If I did not have any oil to vape, I would chose to go back to vaping buds because it is healthier than combustion. I have learned to appreciate the additional undamaged terpenes you can get from quality fresh buds.I think that is a big reason why people notice a big difference in the buzz when it comes to vaping buds vs. smoking. If they are high quality buds that were stored properly where they still contain the terpenes, I believe it adds to the buzz. At first it seems to me like something is missing, but after considering it, I believe that there is something extra.

Whether it is oil, buds, or e-cannabis, I am all for vaping. I like it all.

Okay, time to take another hit from my oil vape!!

Peace

Ouch! I decided to go ahead and read the article! That boy does not know what he is talking about, speaking in half truths.
Neither does Paul Tokin.

Pretty much every bad thing he states about vaporizing I have to 100% disagree with. When he says PG, I may say PEG. When he says ganga, I may say stealth. When he (Paul Tokin) says it doesn't pack the buzz, I say he is an idiot. I will put my mechanical vape with the KISS cart up against any packed bowl of his! Two pokes off my KISS cart on the mechanical and you are baked out of your mind! At least with my oil anyway.

I could go on and on, but I already did in my previous post LOL! I do however, feel sorry for them missing out on some good ways to enjoy mj. They are just not having a good experience with it.

Compared to vaping my oil straight, there is no joint that will even come close.

I noticed the same thing with hits from a volcano turkey bag, using herb that didn't do that when burned. I thought temperature might also have something to do with it.

My friends use G Pens. They all love them. Honestly, in my opinion, if you don't have a nail or any of that equipment for smoking bho, the best way to go would be to get a G pen.
