onyx bloom grow

Hi fellas,

It has been a while but wanted to post some pictures of the current run. They are a week away from going into 12/12. Growing in Hempy buckets (which have been great so far) with a perlite/coco mix. Strains are purple kush and hashplant (the small one) all from Crop King.

To my eye they look decent so far but feel free to make any suggestions if you want, I'm all about learning and getting better. Only sign of stress i see are some yellow leaf tips, but only just the very ends.

Enjoy the pics20141212_223644.jpg20141212_223656.jpg 20141212_223644.jpg

They look good to me. How many inches away is the Onyx from the tallest plant now that your in flower?
I'm trying to keep it around 22" give or take. I'm running out of ceiling space so I've been bending and tying like crazy to try and keep the canopy as even as possible.

All 3 havery shown sex already (flipped the lights a week early due to space).

Will post some more pictures tonight

If you run out of vertical space maybe you can pull the lens cover off. @captainmorgan is testing that strategy and I think he said it gave him better spread.
Ive been watching his thread, it seems to make a huge difference I'm just scared to take them off. I'm really good at taking stuff apart but not great at putting it back together. I have some t5's to install vertically in the corners but haven't had the time with work. Maybe over Christmas.

Can't wait to post the update tonight, they look huge compared to the first pics

I really like the tomato cages. So basically you just keep LSTing them under each rung and wait till it grows up then push it back and through the next rung up higher?

I asked Captain about the coverage drop when he took off the panel because he's at 10 inches now getting 875 at the very center of a 3x3 space which is gravy for a Horizontal SCROG but for anything else I think it may drop it off too much if you don't have that perfect canopy level. I'm still trying to figure out the perfect height for my 2x2 space, I'm sitting at 20 inches but based on his original measurements I need to go higher but dont have very much headroom to do so IDK lol

I'm no pro by any stretch of the imagination so just I'm kinda just going based on what I think looks right. But I have been just bending them through and tying to the cage to spread them out. It amazed me how fast they have grown and filled out like that. Lots of tops and the cages (these were just left over from a fence I built) are nice at keeping the area in order. Only annoying thing is moving them to water--but so is life.

My last run I had the lights around that 20" mark. I found higher and they were stretching a little much but that could have been just because Im a newb.

I'll keep this thread going till harvest in case anyone is interested in following.

As always, feedbac and constructive criticism are welcome.

Cheers

20150101_203227.jpg 20150101_203243.jpg 20150101_203251.jpg hi everyone,

Just wanted to post a quick update on the grow. All and all, still looking fairly healthy in my opinion. I let them get way to tall and overcrowed. Next run I am going to do 1 plant in the space.

I snapped a pic of the only issue I can see on the plant. It is right beside the fan so I am thinking wind burn. The leaves are dry and brittle, and turning a browning grey colour. I thought maybe phosphorus def but it is isolated to that one area. Besides older leaves dying off everything is staying pretty green. Any thoughts?

Just when I, inspired by your garden, thought I'll grow a bunch next run! Why downsize?
They look great. Never complain about too robust growth. Purple kush and hash?... I'd have taken you for a sativa man, based entirely on your handle. Going for pain relief in lieu of psycho-activity ?

Sorry...forgot to address your direct question.

Each plant keeps or drops leaves at its own pace, and I stopped worrying about it because they flower anyway. My wife would have given up on a plant that looked pitiful last June, and she turned out to be a great producer, and is still delivering fresh bud in January! She's sativa, of course, and I unconventionally pick lower buds like ripe tomatoes from the vine. Delicious in the vape machine when fresh! Don't let dying leaves concern you too much. Let nature do her work.

Thanks for the kind words man. I think using the cages worked out really well, I just think with one plant I might be able to come close to the same yield and could maybe get a better spread on the canopy. I don't have anything to back that up and it might change but would also require a lot less upkeep. I'm in the process of designing and building an automatic watering system so a lot it up in the air still.

Next run is going to be either Durban or NYC diesel. I've always been into the idea of growing hashplant and PK I actually had very little interest in but as I was grabbing the seeds my wife said "last time you complained you only grew one kind, don't be dumb again" so I grabbed them and chucked them in the mix.

The issues I'm having are minimal so fingers crossed for a nice finish.

Cheers

I agree. 9 mini plants equal one large plant without the maintenance. As for auto watering, I do soil, not hydro, and with my next grow I will be using a humidifier at mid dark to foliar feed for 15 minutes. Will spray with dyna gro 1/4 strength every night. Multiple international university studies indicate very positive results from mid dark cycle foliar feeding.

What type of set up do you have going for that? Id be interested in taking a look.

It seems logical that it would be beneficial.
