Good god man , that looks wicked painfull & funky , i got stabbed in the lung when i was young & the wound didnt look that wicked .
You guys wanna see some yummy boil pics look on youtube , they have zits videos the size of footballs being popped & squeezed with quarts of white puss squirting 20 feet .

It probably didn't look as bad because yours didn't get infected as shit like mine did.
Mine nearly admitted me to the hospital, a measly ingrown hair.
I went to the urgent care and they wouldn't do anything for it so I took a scalpel and incised it myself. Once it was open it was a matter of keeping it open it those compresses and epsom salts. just make sure the compresses are clean, I used gauze.
I'm hoping this doesn't happen to the OP, which is why I posted in the first place.

Oh no mine surely didnt have time to get infected , about 30 seconds after i got shived in the lung i dropped like a stone & was off to surgery , the collapsed lung felt like i was drowning & was terrifying .
That clinic you went to should be burned to the ground refusing to treat such a large infection , i woulda been pissed .

Yeah it was like the doc was scared to even touch it so I told her I was taking a scalpel and some sterile 4x4s and she was cool with it.

Ingrown hairs are a bitch!
However an ingrown hair in your crack (not the case here) is a pilonidal sinus which usually needs anti biotics and packing dressing.
Bf has one in his armpit right now. I want him to take anti-biotics but he says it's going down. My Dad had an armpit abscess removed once.
I've had an ingrown hair from shaving, it swelled to the shape and size of an almond. The Drs just gave me a shitty cream. If it happened again I'd be more likely to go straight to the pharmacy.

This is why when I shave my face I keep the hairs above the level of the skin by using a hair trimmer instead of a actual razor blade or shaver. It keeps me from getting razor burn and ingrown hairs, and its super quick too lol
If cut too close they curl up under the skin and cause issues.
