Hey guys I found a random little black fly... I also see little tiny white ones in the soil, I assume they grow into those black ones...how do I get rid of it and is it harmful to my plant?

Sounds like fungus gnats. You can get some Gnatrol ( poison) or Gnat-Nix - a top dressing made of recycled glass ( looks like tiny perlite) and it prevents the females from laying eggs in the pot and stops the larvae from being able to leave the soil as an adult, it breaks the life cycle.

I use the Gnat-Nix top dressing and it has worked well. I also use the yellow sticky traps to catch any newcomers to the garden.

Hope this helps.

They can be if left untreated. The adults are not bad other than the females lay eggs, it is the larvae in the media that munch on organic matter ( roots) that can become the nemesis.
They have a fairly quick life cycle and can make rabbits look slow..lol

Persistence is the key, no remedies are an overnight cure that would not have a side effect on the plant and/or later on, you. Use sticky traps for the adults and a top dressing that prohibits the transition to and from the media and they will go away in a short time ( several days to a week or so) Letting the top several inches of the pot get good and dry also slows the production as well.

lol..

Excuse my stonedness, please :eyesmoke:

After rereading your comment, I think the answer your looking for is the Gnatrol poison or Gnat-Nix bad for the plants?

Answer - The Gnat-Nix is just tiny glass lava rock that is like a field of razor wire to the bodies of soil dwellers and is inert and totally safe as long as you do not get it in your eye ( recommend stopping area fans while handling)
Gnatrol - I guess it can be if overused, but as directed, not from what I have read ( I do not use it, just the top dressing and sticky pads)

gnatrol is all good. I used it on my plants and they are looking great now! I used gnatrol about 5 weeks ago.
