Anyone Here Use Probiotics?

I have used them before, I really did not notice too much difference to be honest with you. No my bowels weren’t suddenly magical, I think psyllium husk was far more effective in getting me to go to the bathroom. As long as you have a relatively decent diet, I am not sure if probiotics are even needed

I take them every day. If I run out, I can tell within a couple of days. My stomach goes into terrible pain...like there is glass in it or something. Also, I get a very full feeling and it is hard to eat, even when starving, like the food goes down to the top of my stomach and wont go further if that makes sense. The probiotics have been a life saver for me.

When choosing a probiotic, I believe its key that it soil based, otherwise many to choose from...

An example of a probiotic that Chris Kresser recommends

Prescript-Assist® (P-A) is a next-generation combination of 29 probiotic microflora "Soil-Based-Organisms (SBOs)" uniquely combined with a humic/fulvic acid prebiotic that enhances SBO proliferation. Prescript-Assist's® microflora are Class-1 micro ecological units that are typical of those progressively found resident along the healthy human GI Tract. And, with more than 5 years in clinical development and testing*, Prescript-Assist remains one of the most effective probiotic supplements for restoring levels of gastrointestinal micro-flora compromised from antibiotics, medication, poor diet, stress, and digestive abnormalities.
  • Maintains Healthy GI-Tract MicroFloral Ecologies
  • Promotes Normal Bowel Function
  • Supports Gut Immune-System
  • Assists in Stabilizing the Gut Mucosal Barrier
  • Supports Normal Absorption and Assimilation of Nutrients in the Gut

Just have a cup of coffee and eat one of those shitty untreated yogurts every once in a while... so much better to get nutrients through natural food. One, I don't trust these supplement companies (Never buy GNC products). Two your body doesn't process them as well... my two sense.

probiotics are fucking amazing. The problem is keeping your gut flora in check. A coca cola has a ph of about 2 and will do a number on your gut flora. And so will chloramines, chlorine, antibiotic laced meats, preservatives, etc.

80% of your immune system is in your gut flora. That is how fucking amazing and important your flora is. There is a lot of new research documenting the critical link in gut flora and certain conditions like obesity are linked.

To utilize it one needs to treat their body like an organic plant. You don't feed tap water, and preservatives, and antibiotics cause they kill a good portion of your flora rendering it a waste to supplement. If you do keep you flora in check like I do, I notice a major difference in health and I have zero digestive issues and I do keep a very healthy gut flora and eat very well to establish good flora. it pays off very well for me.

Foods that promote good flora are unpastuerized yogurts and milk, kombusha, kim chi, fermented vegetables, a avoiding toxins that will kill flora.

awesome info Mike :) funny you say that about tap water. Our water made us vomit if we tried to chug a bottle, and was also causing a lockout in my girls. Switched to RO water, and both issues stopped.

I consume about 3-4 cups of peach yogurt daily, the refrigerated tarty-sweet kind, not the frozen kind. Yogurt has probiotics in it. I do this to replace the beneficial bacteria that I wipe out from also consuming my homemade colloidal silver which kills both the bad with the good. I also drink 1 tablespoon of Bragg's Raw vinegar twice a day diluted with water for the great concentration of enzymes and aminos. I never have any issues with constipation either, averaging 2 trips per day for proper dumpage.

my wife had her gull bladder removed... the probiotics helps her to handle food digestion a lot better without all the bloating gas and discomfort a lot of people who have their gull bladder removed go through

I personally like Dr. Ohira Probiotic live 12+ its non refridgerated and has 12 strains of probiotics. Sacchorymes Boulardi combos are pretty good too and pretty good pricing too. Your guts health is your health you gotta keep your body healthy, I believe name brand Florastor is sachromye boulardi also. basically buy what you want but do your research lots of good and bad stuff out there. good luck

I take them daily and lots of fiber and lots of water. My gut's never felt better. My sister had Chron's disease for years. She got it under control with probiotics when no physician was able to help her. I have noticed a big change in her energy levels. I can tell she feels better.

I've wondered about probiotics myself. However, I never have stomach or digestive issues. So does that mean I wouldn't benefit from probiotics? Or maybe they would be good for my immune system anyway? Maybe not, since I never seem to get sick. Honestly, I never even get a cold. So maybe I should just leave well enough alone?

Well, It's a good question. I know they replace "friendly bacteria" similar to buttermilk yogurt but better. So, I wouldn't think there would be harm except to the pocket book. I would just keep it in mind as a backup plan if your stomach gets out of balance.

Wow, you should really get tested for H-Pylori infection. Half the world population has the bacteria, most without symptoms, but something like this sounds like the probiotics are what's keeping them from doing damage. I just found out I have it, only after a whole year of abdominal pain and issues. It got better when I took pro biotics, but when I stopped and started eating meat again it came back... Seriously, just trying to help out. Sounds farmilliar :/ esp. The glass feeling in the stomach! Typical hpylori.

I vote yes if you don't have issues and eat a good diet I wouldn't worry about trying them. Definitely keep in mind for those spells of eating fast food crap daily! And if you ever develop any issues. Until then, just eat probiotic kefyr and yogurt a few times a week. You probably have a good balanced diet if you have no issues :)
