2nd grow ever

Hey guys and girls, I've lurked on here for quite some time and finally decided to make a username. I had one a few years back and can't remeber the name or anything so I decided to make a new one. I had some questions and hoped yall could help me out some. I've got a 6x8 enclosed trailer and I'm wanting to use it this winter for a grow room. I was curious how some of you would set it up, my budget is around 2k, haven't decided on a strain yet either. Any help is appreciated. My 1st attempt at growing yielded me 13 oz's with a 4x4 and a 1000 watt hps, auto flowering strain called critical mass.
Also the walls are wooden, what should I cover them with? I'm mainly concerned with the max amount of lightning I should use, what size fans would properly ventilate the room and should I be worried about moisture in all wooden room like that?

You might run into a few issues.

The slightest bit of moisture for a short bit of time on untreated wood will mold.

I know the first thing that crosses peoples mind isn't safety, but all wood would go up in flames fast. I suppose its not attached to any living structure.....

If it it gets cold your gonna need insulation or your gonna be wasting money on heaters.

If it gets cold, how are you gonna water the plants? Going in and out? Opening door to outside temps? This may or may not be a big deal depending on temp.

Maybe you could rig an exhaust fan on a timer (lights on) with a switch if your opening the door.

You say winter so I'm thinkin exhaust lights on, no exhaust lights off dehumidifier.

Also if little to no insulation, your temps may be tricky because your susceptible to outside temps which probably range quite a bit.

Jiji gave great advice. Need more details on what temps you are worried about. I would say put a decent coat of primer on that wood in there and then throw some rigid insulation on the walls to help control temps (both ways). I run in an all wood detached shed, but I put a tent inside the shed to help control the environment, and the rest of the space is used as work space and to help buffer the air that goes into the tent.

I have seen some pretty amazing grow rooms built in trailers and sheds (mine isn't one of them :) )

I'm hoping I can keep it under $2000, just want to make sure I do this all right this time I need a big yield, are there any threads on grow setups suck as the size trailer I mentioned?

I would probably insulate the walls and ceiling and throw an 4x8 tent in there if it will fit (may be too tight. Otherwise you could run a couple tents in there for veg and bloom if you plan on running perpetual.

Need a bit more info though, and a lot of variable. How handy are you, what are you starting with equipment wise, soil or hydro? What is your external environment like?

Its inside a barn, I'm fairly handy, I was going to do a super soil, what should I insulate it with? And I was just going to use air from outside don't know that size fans to use yet and still am unsure of wattage

2 600 watters or 2 1000s.

Depends on your ninja skills. Dont think about just lighting per sq ft, you need to walk around.

Your setup is the hardest environment to setup. So its gonna be tough but doable.

Id stick with soil or soiless mixture. Small flood tables would be ok but your limited by height.

If your planning on perpetual in there, thats gonna be a mess.

For insulation you could use xps and tuck tape the seams, or some reflective insulation board.

I had planned on filling up the whole space, and just pulling them out if they needed maintance, I was going to main line the plants also, I just really didn't know what I needed to do about my incoming air, which is just outside air coming in. It's freezing cold where I am now on most nights, , was gonna do 12 5 gallon soil bags and one single grow from this trailer then I was going to move it to an 8x8 tent in a new location.

If it were me I would just loosely insulate it I suppose with out tuck tape. No air exchange. Its not ideal but your in a shitty situation.

I got into an argument about how much CO2 plants really use from the room with general construction breathing and opening the door once per day. Anyways, I'm going to log some data with a CO2 meter when I get a chance on this situation in the not too distant future. I'm 100 percent certain inside a drafty home with a sealed room you would be fine as I have tested this before, not sure the exact details outside.

If you need to ventilate because of heat, you could get 1 or 2 decent size muffin fans. Make sure the intake is not blowing in on wood, because whatever the cold air touches is going to develop condensation.

Should I just do a sealed room and C02 added into the room? And a vent for the lights? I'm really trying to make this as simple as possible but just sealing the room and adding co2 doesn't sound bad to me. I was gonna use 2 cool tube lights and vent them outside going through a carbon filter. You think 2 1000's would be to much heat if I seal the room off with no incoming air? I ask because it's fairly cold here anyway so it won't be hot on it.

CO2 will probably wreck your budget, and why bother for 1 grow. Theres no way you will get all of that dialed in.

I dunno if its too much heat (in winter), never grown in a trailer but it would be easy to find out. Do a test run. If its near temp or slightly too hot just get a small muffin fan.

I live in a very cold area, and I've seen my share of shed/garage grows no CO2, no ventilation (during winter). With great yields. Im not talking out of my ass. It seems like most think this cant exist.

They don't have anything against CO2 but there are some poor ass people around here, and if they were doing an ideal setup I doubt they would pick a shed to grow in.

IMHO, too many people get caught up and think air volume needs to be exchanged once every 1-5 minutes. Need and ideal are two completely different things.
If your exchanging air and making environment suffer because of cold temps your doing yourself a disservice.

Okay I'll do a test run first I guess and go from there. Should I get 2 1000's or 2 600's? my Budget just got a little larger, got a new job. I'm halfway intersted in LED lighting also. I have time to do this I'm In no rush right now.

Im thinking you have a really low ceiling height so probably 600s, maybe1000s with right reflector.. LEDs are for tents and closets. HPS's biggest downfall is heat output, which you need.

Ok makes sense. Any other good input? Anybody wanna throw out a number on how many I should throw in there? I put 12 in a 4x4 tent once and I felt that was to many for that size tent

I would insulate the inside of the trailer with some kind of material that could help prevent drafts maybe just blankets along the walls, seal the entire thing with "Great Stuff" perhaps. You can make it work as long as you can maintain the right conditions. The lights alone may be enough to heat the area with a small ventilation fan just for the smell. Incoming air will most likely stunt the growth since it's so cold out so you could probably just leave it sealed until it's time to flower then you may want to filter the smell out to prevent any snooping.

I'll probably Line the walls with Mylar, throw a dehumidifier in there. Two isolating fans, a carbon filter for ventilation, and was curious if anyone has or can I add an incoming air ventalation with a thermostat somehow wired into it so it would Ventilate when it reaches temps too hot? I guess I'm gonna go with 2 1000's with just normal hood reflectors. I don't think cool tube style lighting is necessary from what you guys have told me. I was going to attempt to mainline these guys also, and wanted to use a similar soil to what nuggbuckets uses I beleive. That user name may be wrong I haven't read about his super soil in a very long time. I'm just now jumping back into this 2 years later. Anyone wanna guess an average yeild for a set up I'll be going with? I'll be taking every measure I can to make sure I produce the best crop I possibly can.

they make controller fan boxes / fan temp controllers.

I've always read that 600w get better lumen per watt output. I'm going with 600s the next time I get lights.
