Why is my stem so short?

In most of the videos I've seen the plants had stems 2-3 times longer than mine even before really growing their first pair of leaves. Why do you think mine is so short? It's a bag seed but it might be Girl Scout Cookies. I also notice the first leaves drooping down does it look like I'm over watering or anything?

Some guys have long "stems", some guys have short "stems" it's all in the genetics.

Really though your seedling looks fine. Rite now the plant is putting most of its energy into root production. As it develops a bigger root system it will start to put energy into leaf and stem production. It needs the roots first to be able to support more stem and leaf mass. One day you will be thankfull for compact plants.

I have a master yoda that I couldn't really clone because the nodes are so close. I'm hoping to clone it after it's been in flower for a week. I suppose I could have jacked up the light during veg to try to promote stretch...... I like the short internodes though.

That's a good thing. Especially when growing indoor. I always hunt for the short compact pheno in any hybrid strain.

Some strains are just leggier than others. However, the major inducer of stretch is lack of light. That will cause a seedling/plant to stretch out more than if it is getting sufficiently strong lighting from sprouting. Some people don't turn on lighting at all until after the seeds have risen and already begun to stretch.

I use a T5 fixture for seedlings and keep it a like 4 inches from the soil surface until the seeds have sprouted, then it's ~2 inches away. That keeps stretching to a minimum.
