Is their a reason why we don't recommend LG since the release of these?.......was it always just about them pissing us off over the BS par#s and not mostly "white" power ??............I don't remember what went down anymore
Those were the early days when we were trying to wrap our head around PAR spectrums from different light sources and the fact that we were seeing comparable yields despite having a PPFD that was half that of HPS. I felt the backslash for the ill-conceived term, "LumiPAR," so I pulled the concept from our collateral soon after. Yes, it was confusing and the BS radars rippled through the forums; seems the damage was significant. Mea culpa.

I just posted a thread about the photosynthetic rates of HPS vs LG LEDs for Gerbera. As it turns out we weren't too far off from our estimate on effective PPFD for our LED spectrum; a small consolation.

About those LG Pro OSRAM diodes; yes, they're top-bin. Just in the last year, the diodes' efficiencies coming off the line have improved. The Pro 650 and Pro 325 are now running at 615w and 310w respectively; the high-voltage units are even better at 285w and 538w respectively (edit: although this is because of the power supply, not the diodes). Now I have a problem of a product name that doesn't match the wattage pull; another lesson learned.

Can you clarify on how close the yields where?? @ half the ppfd

Yeah I remember how excited we all where when the #s released for the proline, then guod "straightened out" our math:wink:

Good to hear about the chips all being top-bin now, Is their a way for the growers to know that their getting the latest/most efficient LG units when purchasing?? model/sku # on the casing??

I would also try to remove " par #'s equal to 2 1000w hps" from your product description ........it's misleading(in terms of yield) to the average consumer IMO

good luck

We were growing cherry tomatoes, chrysanthemums, lettuces and herbs under ES330s. The science supported the idea that a plant specific spectrum using narrow-banded LEDs would have a higher efficacy than an HPS spectrum. In our side by side comparisons with HPS, even when the LED output was less than half the PPFD than that of the HPS, the yields were comparable. The studies can be requested here. We're still investigating the phenomena (hence the gerbera post).

Is their a way for the growers to know that they're getting the latest/most efficient LG units when purchasing?? model/sku # on the casing??
I'm adding this to the product marketing feature queue. We build 'em as fast as we sell 'em, so if you buy one today, there's a 90% chance it's a new piece off the line. Unless of course you buy used. Manufacturing has been asked to track diodes and serial numbers moving forward.

Agreed, that is a misleading statement. The proper statement that we use is...

The Pro 650 light delivers 2X the red and blue PAR of a 1000 Watt HID light while it consumes 40% less energy. The Pro 325 provides red and blue PAR equivalent to that of a 1000 Watt HID light while it reduces energy consumption by a whopping 70%.

I'll have someone mention it to Nate at GG.

damn close, man

the Oslon in the BML fixture must be super top bins...

Guod, let me double check the BINs. Based on that graph, something doesn't line up; it's likely I'll get some more egg on my face.

For commercial accounts the cost of one Pro 325 fixture is $599. So the numbers relating to $/mol/s and %/µmol/s/yr and $/(µmol/s)yr can be updated to reflect the new pricing.

What really got me with the lumi initially was the price of the 325 vs the 650 when they first came out. They were almost the same price and I didn't want 650w in one spot. I was very close to buying it once but the pricing was the strangest i had ever seen

The new pricing is much better..almost half what it used to be..

I've asked a few times for suggestions, and while I would love to follow up with those and order a nice led unit from a reputable company, my funds are all but tied right now.

What i do have, is a $50 amazon credit, and i have been browsing various led bulbs/fixtures that are available on that site.

Can you send me some suggestions on what a good investment would be for $50 with little or no added from my pocket, just for now until I have the resources available again for a nice led unit.

Thank you

If it helps, the space is 4ft by 2ft by 5ft tall. and I currently have two led ufos running, one 90w the other 45w, and 565w of mixed spectrum cfl. The overall goal is to go entirely led, but for now can you suggest a good option. Thank you

Also, if i were to get led bulbs, which spectrum? Should i go specific for vegetation and flower like with cfls, or just go for daylight spectrum?

Something like this?
24w led bulbs

These probably do not dissipate 10W, more likely 6 or 7 watts, but they are set up nice for beaming the light into the canopy.

they come in larger sizes

Cool or neutral white for vegging phase and warm white for flowering phase. To some extent it depends of whether you are growing a sativa dom or indica dom. The indicas seem to benefit from a longer veg period and might benefit from more stretch (using more warm white)

Hope all is well Psuagro, did you happen to catch my latest time lapse with the Hated HydroGrow LEDS? lol... I didn't do as well as anticipated. didn't reach my gram per watt that I did with the extreme series..but hey 397 grams aint bad for just two plants.....

That's fugly!,I can do a buck forty in both and that's my limit but one has way more class..... literally looks like the skateboard I bought at toys r us in the eighties.......lol

I already posted this in another thread but this might be a better place for this post for helping people choose spectrums.

I did some testing of Vero 10s, one of each 2700K 3000K 3500K 4000K 5000K, all 80CRI versions and wanted to show some pictures of the differences in spectrums side by side. The pics arent the greatest but came out pretty good on showing the differences in color and the camera auto dimmed massively so they are a lot brighter in person than they look in the pics.

The test rig.

3000K Vs 2700K

5000K Vs 2700K

3000K Vs 3500K

4000K Vs 3500K

Not the best comparison by any means but it should at least give you an idea and hopefully help someone in deciding which spectrum or combo they want to buy.

Hey all,

First post from the newb, so be gentle :)

I started growing for the first time about 3 weeks ago:
  • Grow Tent: Sun Hut Fortress85 - 2.5' x 4.5' x 7'
  • Light: BloomBoss 600 - 150w veg; 300w Flower $700 (i know I could have done better, but its what the hydro store had)
  • Hydro system - 21 W 250gph General Hydro EuroGrower 40gallon res with 8 - 2gallon pots (using 4)
  • Medium - clay pebbles with 1lb of coco-noir tek per pot.
  • Exhaust Fan - 113w 4" Hurricane 171CFM
  • Carbon Filter - CAN-Filter 33 rated 100-200CFL
  • 4" fan - 22w
  • Nutrients - General Hydroponics Flora Series
  • Total watts at peak - 456w

I am looking to expand in May and am looking at growing in a 8'x8' Gorilla Grow Tent. My only constraint would be to stay under 1800 total watts so that I can keep it on a 15 amp breaker. I was considering on just buying a kit from SuperCloset for $8k, but after more research (the more you know, the more you know you don't know), I can probably do better with your guys/girls help. I would like to use LED lighting and a soil less Hydro system.

My questions to you, if you were to start a grow room from scratch, what would you use?
  • Lighting - #, Watts, Cost
  • Hydro System - Type, Brand, Cost, Pump(s), watts (considering (2) 6 bucket Bubble Flow Bucket system , $1400 total)
  • Carbon Filter - brand, size, cost (considering CAN 50, 210-420CFL)
  • Exhaust Fan - brand, size, cost, watts (considering CAN RS8, 8" , 135w)

Okay..makes sense now. If it's one of those affordable ebay multichips I would just switch it for a few smaller ones and spread the light out
sounds like the best option. using a bunch of 3 watt diodes spread over a large area.just need to find a large aluminum sheet to keep them cool. thank you
