so weird! I have never seen that before...or not flies and bees together at least. I have seen flies gather like that. I wonder what the tree/bush puts out that attracts them? Maybe a kind of nectar or something? very cool...and those black/white wasps? scary lol

I self pollinated my peppers.. Simply took finger stuck in flower and repeated process on every single flower... i m not sure if it works for all.. but indoor peppers had over 200 flowers on it and nothing.. till i did that method.. give it try...

peppers will self-pollinate. Vibration will cause it to happen. I had chile pequins that would bloom all winter and never set fruit...until I brought the washing machine into the house [trailer]. It shook the place thru the spin cycle...that was all it took.

If you simply transfer the pollen with finger it works great and FREE without the use of machine.

Is anyone else having trouble getting any fruits or veggies? I have/had tomatoes, cucs, and green beans. The toms were putting out hella flowers, but nothing was happening, they would just dry up and fall off. The tomatoes I did get, were cherry sized instead of the big beefsteak they should have been. I was getting all kinds of cucs, now they have stopped and green beans have lots of flowers, but no little beans starting.

I only use organic products. Nothing harmful. I have noticed a lack of bees though. There were tons of them in the spring, but now I may see one if I am lucky. What happened to my bees?
Sometimes you need to hand pollinate...tomatoes and peppers are especially easy...just "tickle" the flower with your fingers or a small electric toothbrush. Not sure about beans since I don't grow them...but cukes. mellons, and squash are fairly easy too...they are male and female flowers. The female flowers have little miniature fruit on them, the males don't. To pollinate simply pick a male flower and plunge it into the inside of a female flower and twirl it around a bit.

Also, grow some bee, butterfly, and humming bird attracting plants; all 3 have the ability to pollinate.

thanks Sandjsdad. I finally said eff it with the cucs and tomatoes. Now I have some butternut, peas, sugar snaps and carrots started. The peas and sugar snaps are self pollinating :)

For anyone else looking for causes of fruit loss
tomatoes cucumbers pumkins water melons Rock melons tomatoes and pumkins
Not fruiting or early fruit bortion caused by:
Pests, Petal Blight/catipillar
downy mildew - same as below
spider mites - unlikely --- hit of Sulphur and copper chloride under leaves -- if sprayed on top its not worth a pinch of shit. Do this once a week because prevention is 10 times better then cure. if u do have sspider mites add dish washing liquid to ur mix - just a squirt it really fcks them
Lack of polination -- quite possible. U can here a hum coming from my garden 7 days a week
LACK OF CALCIUM is a major one called bud end rot it is a fk'ing ightmare if ur plnts are already in.
MAG Deficiency --- epson salts problem solved
sun burning new fruit/heat stress
Fruit fly escpeciall with tomatoes and pumkins
Some pessticides can cause fruit thinning =====> my favourite Everything killer is "bug master systemic". Never found an organic worth a dime that can deal with pests properly,
Thats just my experience
BTW i fruit 10 pumkins per sqm of garden bed -- I know my pesties. I may have missed some but those are the things tht come to mind that I deal with or avoid.

Get your own bee hive mate --- when they arnt doing anything for u they are still making honey comb

Nicotinoids are the most common insecticide used in the world and are also a poison to bees. If you have seen a large population drop in your area this is probably the reason. Something like 90% of the food we eat in the US uses Nicotinoids.
