Going to be starting some Think different or G-13 Pineapple express auto soon. Have my fan already but not the filter yet. About how far into total growth/into the flowering do they start to really get odor and how strong is the odor for each of them. Trying to get a basic window of how long i can wait to get the filter

Hola amigo, during veg there's nothing to worry about so thats about 2-3weeks. Once the pistils come through they'll start to smell but at that stage its minimal...after that some strains have a much stronger odor than others obviously but if you arrange for a filter by week 4 you'll be fine, thats plenty of time so no excuses LOL. Happy growing!

Decided i didn't wanna get half way through with the grow before I started getting essentials, So i went ahead and slid by my local hydro shop and purchased a 6" Fan + Carbon Filter. Also went ahead and got some CalMag, soil, and perlite so i can get a few more beans started when these get close to finishing. Looking forward to getting the grow underway so i can start a journal.

Imo the trained nose can smell weed in veg. Smells different than bud but still like weed.
if you are in a sketchy area
filter would probably be good as of yesterday

Do the filters come with any kind of estimated shelf life as far as their efficiency?

Yo mate, most filters have a shelf life, depending on the type of carbon used inside etc... but ive just found a filter that doubles as a silencer aswell,. you can either push air through it or use it in the traditional way of sucking air through = more room inside your grow area.
Plus it has a interchangeable filter inside, so you don't throw the whole thing away. you smash up the inside bit and can even sprinkle it all over your soil.
What makes this new type capable of all this is here, taken from their website : which im not posting! lol. Nope. Sticking to the rules like glue here,

just trying to inform is all, so here is some info; if you want more info just search for Bulldog filter.

"Constructed under a unique patent this British built Filter is manufactured using new methods which include bonding the carbon cells to the internal casing at a molecular level against the internal frame. Delivering further efficiency and increasing airflow by up to 50% this revolutionary progression in Carbon Filter design eliminates particle settlement within the drum while providing a 3 year lifespan and guarantee"

Comes with a 3 year guarantee aswell.
Sounds too good to be true,,,, so, im gonna get one. to see,. then ill show all what it does, good or bad.
