Is Ocean Forest all that?

I have used ffof on some good grows but lately have been having my doubts. The last bag I bought seems to have more wood chips and rocks! Yes black stones. I admit I am lazy, in the sense that I like to just buy a ready made soil and add a little perlite to thin it out. However, I am getting OK and not stellar results from ffof. Plus there seem to more foreign crap in each new bag? For you soil growers out there, Id like to know what other ready made soils you use. Im just to lazy to mix a bunch of things to make a super soil, lol!

I have noticed more wood chips and black rocks but I still
get really good results from FFOF.

I've used both extensively. I prefer the Frog hands down and not just because it's cheaper. It may not be as hot as OF but its airy and light. Once the plants exhaust the avail nutrients just supplement with an organic NPK liquid regimen. Not to mention you can use the Frog without any worry of burning seedlings

I seem to remember having to hit the ocean forest with lime to stabilize ph over the long

I use happy frog as well, and it allready has the lime in it,

Thanks. I am going to try the Frog. I never have because its so close in price to ffof here. Can it support plants for 30 days without nutrients as well?

I used Happy Frog on my second grow and it worked well. Went solid 3 weeks without nutes. Showed no signs of hunger. But panicked and on day 23 started 1/4 strength nutes. But I think I could have gone another week without them. Good luck

ive had nothing but good results . Personally in 3 or 5 GALLON pots i do this : i throw in half ocean forest and mix with perlite until i think its aired out enough. I then on the top half of the pot mix in happy frog and perlite . My girls havent had any problems .

Nobody can give you the right answer here. It all depends on strain. For example if I were to run my Green Crack clone in the frog I'd be feeding by the end of week 1 whereas most of my other strains I'm good till like week 3.
But for most strains: you're usually good with just pH'd water for the first couple weeks.

Yes, I ran into ph issues also. I didn't add lime in the mix this time and vegged for a long time. Seems like it became acidic. I began lowering my nutes PH to 5.8 to combat.

I'm not that experienced yet, but I think I liked Roots Organic better than Ocean Forest. It seemed to hold moisture better. Maybe just my imagination or strain though.

I'm going to hempy for my next grow. I'll try it out and see if I like it.

I've always used FFOF as well with no problems. Even seedlings. I once tried the Roots707 and was getting a much paler green color than I get with FF.
You say your on the lazy side ? Then you already have a good choice.

Ffof cut with regular promix been working fine for me, last batch I did was happy frog and promix for seedlings in cup, then I put them into 50% promix 30% happy frog and 20% Ffof in three gal bags all blended well, vegged just over another month, planted them in 5gall made up of 1/3 promix 1/3 Ffof and 1/3 happy frog. Right before flip I gave a veg nute waited week, flipped then first 2weeks on some 9-10 weekers I used no nutes,
Worked great for a variety of strains, Tahoe og, lemon stomper, dj shorts blueberry, had a few others that grow, bad memory:)

Not mature hungry plants. Seedlings yes but maybe not 30 days.

Stop using premixed dirt then complaining of poor results , step your game up and go with coco or make your own mix.

IM not sure why ppl think going cocoa or soiless is doing things the complete right way. Or that using soils with nutes in them is lazy or an easy route.
Really why would I make my life with my plants as complex ? I have too many plants to fuck around with PHing and feeding every watering etc. Id rather spend more of my time on inspection of my plants. I guarantee you'll have a healthier grow if you have more time to spend inspecting and prepping.

....This I can really relate too. In the course of learning how to do this and get decent results I read a lot about the PH thing and even had a poster tell me that as long as I didnt pay attention to PH I would never be a good grower. So I tried messing with it. I couldnt afford a top of the line PH meter so I bought a lower end Hanna meter and went about messing with it.
It was nothing but a big pain in the ass as nothing ever read the same way twice and the fun was going out of it real quick.
The water out of my tap was always a consistent 6.5 and there I was fussing around with all that crap.
I ditched that idea, went back to just adding a little Dolomite lime during flower and I was happy again.

i forgot to mention, I also add 1 cup of powered dolomite lime as well as 30% xl chunky perlite to my soil before using.

my ph out the tap is 8.1 consistently. so I have to ph my water. feeding time is different, my nutes ph out to exactly 6.5 each and every time. so I rarely ph anything, be cause I already know what its going to be. lol

Happy Frog. No added mixes, composts, teas etc. Straight out of the bag. I use a single bloom nutrient once my ladies burn through all the fuel in the dirt. Stop using premixed dirt? N***** Please!!!!!
