Low ph During germination. Fatal?

Hey everyone, so I soaked my seeds in warm water overnight, for about 10 hours, and this morning I placed them in solo cups of a freshly rinsed coco coir and perlite mix, I then watered them with a 1/4 strength General Hydroponics nutrient solution, but I didn't think about checking the ph of the solution until after I watered them. Does anyone know if a 4.8 ph will kill or stop a seed from sprouting? Neither of their taproots were showing when I planted them, and I have sinced corrected the ph of the mix. They may be fine. But I'm already worried about my babies D:

4.8 shouldn't be too detrimental in coco.

Depending upon your brand of coco be very careful rinsing it.

By rinsing quality coco before use youre washing away the calcium nitrate buffer which keeps things stable in the coco.

Keep your ph going in around 5.8.

After 4 weeks of using the coco make sure to recharge it with a calcium or CalMag source source.

Each time you transplant to new coco start again with your 4 weeks before recharging.

If you don't recharge every 4 weeks with around EC1.0-1.5 then make sure once a week you increase ca and Mg content of your NUTES by about 0.2-0.3EC. About 200-300ppm.

I'm not a coco grower, but pretty sure you shouldn't give nutes to seeds that haven't sprouted.

I am a coco grower (5yrs) I always precharge my coco with 0.8EC for germinating seeds.

Never do I use plain water unless I'm working with a high EC coco brand such as B'CUZZ.

Buy a quality branded coco.

Try to stay away from compressed form unless you plan to buffer it.

Yep, the brand I used came in brick form, not sure of its quality but I rinsed it out pretty well before planting. I'll be sure to pick up some Calmag, thanks for the help!

Again, spoken like a true soil grower.

Coco is devoid of ANY nutrients other than K in compressed brick form.

In pretreated quality coco it contains a small amount of PK and a slightly higher amount of N and Ca.

You realise coco is a soiless medium.


Your seed starter soil has what in it? Generally trace amount of nutes.


Have you used coco before?

still a plnt has these two leave that come out first thy are kind of round and OH YEA thy provide nutrients to a seedling for up to 3 weeks after sprout so um yea devoud of nutrients is tru for coco n perlite im growing in petmos/coco/perlite mix so yea pritty sure i got my bases coverd...

also brick coco has a huge salt build up in it due to where cocnuts come from aka low ph if bad rinse
so to keep it fresh not calcium or nitrate so good luck with that bro

Yes I know. Because it's harvested and washed in/near salt water.

If you use coco and perlite and don't feed for up to 3 weeks your plants are probably becoming stunted.

My own plants COTELYDONS don't yellow and die off until around week 5 of veg.

Not meaning to be a dick. A lot of folks comment about coco and feeding without actually using the stuff before and always mention the Cots having enough food for 3 weeks growth. IMO that's just not the case unless you're using a preferted coco.

Again wasn't trying to come off as a dick sorry if it seemed that way.
