Any Tips On CFL's ? Please don't talk about Hps/HID/MH

Yes man, they can definitely be used to grow. Tip: Concentrate your light so that you will get the most out of those CFL. Use a reflector and mount them horizontally for maximum output. I grew this bud using ONE 65w 2700K CFL earlier this year. 12/12 from seed. Hope this helps :joint: DSCN0606.JPG I used a home-made reflector (a 1$ aluminum turkey pan) and mounted the light horizontally inside my small bathroom cabinet without a fan or anything else. I used vinegar & baking soda a few times during flowering to create Co2. Plants were healthy from start to finish, and were overcrowded by harvest time. Alas, as you can see, it is possible to grow decent bud under CFL's. :leaf:

DSCN0669.JPG Speed haze (ssh x j.herer) grown under a single 65w CFL with reflector. These are the main colas off 1 plant. got about 10-12g all together per plant, cured.

That's what I'm talking about !
Thanks dluck ! - CFLs are actually very nice in small set-ups. You can get the lights really close to the tops and the quality is there in the end product. Just keep in mind light penetration diminishes fast with these, so that is a key issue to overcome when using CFLs. I have seen some very nice CFL set-ups (in false dressers) and similar small spaces. I remember when I was a teen, before CFL's were on the market. We had to use these "gro n show" incandescents that put out TONS of heat and were total crap when compared to modern CFLs. Damn I feel Old...:P

  • Well the screw into a regular light socket I don't need an adapter I put it right in my bedside lamp to check it out. Once it warms its so damn bright
The bulb is 68 watts dluck 4200 lumens and says a 300watt equiv

Yeah, and the goal is to try and get 100w/ sq. ft CFL light as close to the plants as possible. I am talking about the Actual wattage, and not that "equivalent bullshit". My last CFL grow was a pain in the ass because I constantly had to adjust the lamps to compensate for the plants growth every other day. All in all, it worked out all right though 8)

Not bad for a cabinet grown im hoping to pull 3 oz from my auto sour kush. Its high yield supposedly. I have 4800 lumens plus im gonna make some side lights and scrog. So I think it could be close to possible. But id be happy with an oz.

I think you need more lighting to achieve that kind of yield. I'm talking something like the member B166ER420 posted of his garden. He's running 920 Actual watts of CFLs and just look at the size of those colas. In such a setup, high yields are routine, i'm sure. 4800 Lumens is good for 1 plant 12/12 from seed. You need to figure out a way to get 100 Actuall watts /sq ft. and close to the plants as a few inches. Remember, even a "high-yield" strain will not yield much unless you are giving it LOTS of light. The More, the better, and the great CFL gardens I've seen probably had 16-20 Thousand lumens going with all those CFLs. Just try to follow the 100w/sq.ft rule (or more !) and your buds will be Pfat, stinky, and resinated to oblivion. Hope this helped :joint:

Yeah I have a couple boxes of 55 watt CFLs and then I have 3 of those big ones ill probably buy one more and build a reflector hood with mylar 4 x 68 wat (4200 lumens) 236 watts 12,800 lumens. Plus some 55 watts. Around the bottom i think i will only run the 55 watt ones 6 Hrs out of the 18 hr flower light cycle to creatw stretch

Sounds good, now you have plenty of lumens. If you wanna put up some pics when you're done setting-up , that would be cool too ;-)

Of course!I want to do a grow journal on the strain. its relitively new strain so id like to share my info. I might be growing in 2 plastic tubs that we rigged up but if i do what i want i might need to build a little area. I dont wanna invest much tho. Im poor.
