Strains for anxiety

I had a seizure about six months ago & have been having terrible anxiety attacks. I don't wanna get on Xanax or Valium because I've been down that road unfortunately, & that's just not something I wanna go through again. Since the seizure certain strains make me wig out even worse, so I'm lookin for the one strain the mellows me out.
You may want to try a high CBD strain like Paradise- Durga Mata II. My fiance' suffers from periodic paralysis (long story), but we are getting ready to run this strain to use to help with the seizures. Will let you know how it works for us. Peace :peace:

From someone who has wrestled with serious anxiety issues, I can tell you from personal experience this is HORRIBLE advice. Strong sativas and strong sativa hybrids frequently make things worse, and in some cases much worse. I know several people that suffer from anxiety and we all stay away from strong sativa anything.

Please quote the source(s) for your research. I would be very interested...
Very true KS- Sativas can often be too racy, especially for those who are prone to anxiety. I'd say avoid them, or at least proceed with caution :joint:

i have grown a few Jamaican strains that have a nice warm high a little speedy but not trippy for sativas
a pheno of sweet tooth i had from barneys was great very nice body tingly buzz with a very clear head high

i do not think weed can help very much with anxiety
its more a question of what weed will aggravate my anxiety less
high cbd low thc strains would be better i guess

For me, a good solid Indica always helps with my anxiety. I prefer the old school Kushes (Chitral, Master-Kush,etc.) because they allow me to function without turning me into a "baked-couch potato" :eyesmoke: A Superb Sativa such as Kali Mist during the day, and a good Indica at bed-time.

i tend to smoke weed everyday regardless , i have noticed during the periods when i was not smoking anxiety was less

have you tried to go without weed completely for like 6 months to see how this works for you?
for me personally i do not mind a little anxiety the other benefits/pleasures from weed outweigh the edginess

Anything harvested a little on the early side will be more likely to increase anxiety, imo. Grow as large a variety as you can just to increase your odds of getting one that works well for you. My favorite daytime anti-anxiety would be Western Winds (Kali Mist) and I like LA Confidential for evening. Good luck!
kali mist for anti anxiety? you must be high strung!

Interesting to see how cannabis affects individuals differently. Last year, I took a break from puffing for a few months and my anxiety issues became more frequent and more severe. I take anti-psychotic meds for bi-polar disorder and the severe anxiety/ptsd I've had since early childhood. I had major alcoholic binges all throughout my teens and most of my adult life ... Cannabis has helped curb my anxiety (relaxing indicas) and also helped me quit drinking- once and for all. I like Sativas during the day, as a much better anti-depressant alternative to all the pharmaceuticals. Fuck pharmD when I have some Kali Mist in the medicine jar :finger: We switch over to Indicas for night time, as a relaxant before bed.:peace: to Everyone on RIU -

yeh its interesting that it gives you relief and is better than prescription medicine which is hugely toxic compared to weed imo

i find that if i need to do something that i think maybe anxiety inducing i will not smoke too much before hand
as this helps, if i am too high before hand i find anxiety can trigger more often

if i give up weed completely i end up drinking too much beer which is not good
although i find alcohol is better for anxiety (dutch courage) but not a good way to treat it, too many side effect

peace

Thanks for the reply skunkd0c ;-) Yes, Lithium (for example) is toxic -unlike cannabis, and I'd rather not be taking any pills @ all. These days, I'm rather careful about strong sativas (they CAN induce paranoia, for me). Personally, i'm the same way, because when I am forced to stop medicating with cannabis, I end up getting beer and drinking huge amounts of it, and all the problems come back with a hangover the next day. Indeed, cannabis works much better for me than pharmD or self-medicating with booze. I'll stick with my Kushes and Kali Mists and everything will be "right as rain". Peace-

Very true guys & gals - I guess we;re all trying to match our "human fingerprint" with the strains' genetic cannabis profile to find the "right" match. It's an awesome hobby

Remember; everybody reacts in their own way to different cannabinoids. One patient's Blueberry is another's Durban Poison.

Here's what Leafly says :) http://www.leafly.com/explore/conditions-anxiety
I have battled serious anxiety issues for years (Diagnosed Generalized Anxiety Disorder). I have done lots of research and have formed relationships with other anxiety patients. I can tell you from personal experience and the experience of others you are handing out dangerous advice. Sativas can be very dangerous to someone prone to anxiety and can make things much worse very quickly. An anxiety patient is far better off starting with calming and soothing indicas and working up to a mild sativa hybrid.

To recommend that a new anxiety patient experiment with sativas, especially one prone to anxiety attack is in my mind dangerous and irresponsible.

I do not consider Leafy to be a reliable source for anything. I quit reading it a long time ago...

Good to know Keizer!

TBH, I've never heard any complaints about my sativas increasing anxiety. And, for certain people (probably with lower anxiety than the folks you help), I will still suggest them.

I have also been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder/ptsd. In my personal experience, I find that indicas (Master-kush and HK) specifically help with my stress/anxiety issues by calming me down and letting me relax and breathe... It works in uncomfortable situations, better than a xanax or valium (but in a similar fashion). Sativas on the other hand, while alleviating depression and motivating me, Can induce tachycardia, as well as anxiety (for me as well as others, apparently). It is really all dependent on the individuals' unique brain chemistry and how the particular strain affects him/her. I agree with Keizer, it is generally bad advice to suggest (some) Sativas to a new cannabis patient. You don't want to obliterate.. just medicate:peace:

the use of MJ for anxiety treatment is in its infancy
some strain recommendations are interesting, to put it mildly
for example on one of the better known MJ/disorder lists, nl#5 has been listed for social anxiety
i did grow out a version of nl#5, seemed close to smoke reports out there
nl#5 is strong, hard hitting stuff
for social anxiety? that could send some people over the edge or worse
i found it to have some value, but made no sense for social anxiety IMHO

Have found that Burmese sativa has a very anti anxiety effect also and she is very calming. Here she is crossed with Abusive OG Kush. (Snowhigh seeds General Ho) This was pheno #5. A taller more sativa leaning girl then the rest. Crystals are just everywhere on the bud. Cured it smells like a coffee shop.
