LED = Not there yet. Only use imo is not cheap Chinese crap, and only in mini cabs. May as well buy weed.
20 of these little buggers sellotaped together would be 40,000 lumens of white cree light
anyone with a spare £5000 think how cool you would be with a sellotaped flashlight led grow tent
all the other hipsters would be ridden with envy

Don't worry Drunksock one of your lap dogs will come by and tell us all how clever you are. Hypocrisy much ? You might as well be usin' colored fonts baby 8-). But here, the hipsters gotta new blunt tool to beat your aging dino ass into shape with. Doesn't prove shit to me, (small samples, single lab, one off "experiment" with no controls, etc. etc.), but does show that different spectrums and intensities can bring about different expressions in plants. Still not anything new there, but it is interesting. Don't think the rest of your favorite RIUers are gonna see it that way though. Welllllllll it's been fun but I gotta get back to the 21st century. Fail Britania :finger:.

Most people only post purely anecdotal evidence and it should bear little weight in any decision making.

It's nice to see Greengenes approach, and data. Although, I've read reports on people submitting the exact same bud sent in to labs for gas chromatography analysis and get varying results sometimes up to a 20 percent difference. I have no idea why, and don't have any background in scientific testing, and if compares to that lab I don't know.....

As much LED shit talking as I do, I actually keep an open mind, and if I thought they were worth it for me, I would be the first to go out and buy some.

For me the only thing that seems possibly worth it is supplementing HPS with LED, but I haven’t seen concrete evidence that it is worth it.

It still boggles my mind, (and I'm not singling you out here btw), how there seems to be this mentality that you can only use one or the other throughout this and other growers forums. That there is this "there can only be one winner" mentality on both sides of the fence. Crazy. And I was just reading a paper, (can't seem to find it now, sorry), that was comparing LED growing and HPS growing and a Hybridized version of both. The best samples came from the hybrid but the question is, is the excess biomass going to pay the extra costs? I'm assuming that is what you would need to know before you "drink the Kool-Aid" :).
To me it's basically this, if you have a big room, LEDs alone are borderline useless and to fill a room with LEDs is too expensive and unwise in this day and age. HPS delivers a known performance with a much cheaper initial outlay. As the room, containers and plants gets smaller LEDs become the better call and that is one of their strong suites right now. They work best in situations where other lighting isn't realistic. I have a friend who takes care of my excess MMJ and I would use an HPS in a heartbeat but I can't because of the place I grow in. LED allows me to grow without all the red flags that get people busted around where I am. Ultimately, like MM530 says, it's to each there own and there are just too many HID artists to be telling them they're wrong about there choice of light but one day those bulbs will be more or less history and LED is going to be there. Plasma or not :)
