Grow room design help needed please

Hey everyone, I'm a longtime reader but obviously this is my first post. Last year was my first grow indoors, with a 1000w magnetic HPS in a 10x10 room in my basement. Years prior I was an outside grower, and my yields outside were better than last year and I'm fairly certain it was loss of light due to an inadequate room design. The indoor grow wasn't planned at the time, outside weather conditions prompted me to pull the plug and go indoors. The room was unfinished, no drywall, etc. I hung a 1000w HPS over 5 plants(Widow, and Super Lemon Haze) in Pro-mix soil, watered/fed and basically just let it rip. My ceilings are 10 feet high, and plant height got nearly 8 feet in these conditions but bud density sucked major ass compared to outdoors.

So with that out of the way, I'm not looking to utilize the entire room as my estimates tell me 2 1k lights would be required to properly light this amount of space. My thinking right now is to put up 3 stud walls, and basically build a room inside a room 6x6, where I will use 1 600w Lumatek digital + adusta-wing reflector. My basement stays relatively cool at 75 degrees. I plan on covering all walls with mylar for reflection. I'm guessing with a more enclosed environment, I'm going to have to deal with heat now as well, something that wasn't an issue last year.

Is this how you guys would tackle this? Recommendations, suggestions, dos/don't, tips, trick, and rookie hazing is all very much appreciated.

In a 10x10 room you'd need 4x1000w lights to just about cover the entire room.

A 600w has at best a 4x4 footprint with around 3ft of penetration power.

4-6 2-3ft tall plants for a 600w.

When your plants finished at 8ft tall last time they only had enough light to penetrate around 4ft. So 4ft of the plant from the pot upwards wasn't receiving enough light energy to grow properly but was sucking "the potential" out of the plant.

If you are going to use a 600 then build a 5x5 partition as this will give you some manoeuvrability within the room and give you space for extra fans and added equipment (dehumidifier etc).

You'll want at least 250CFM of exhaust power with a matching filter.

I had a 10x10 effective grow area (so room was larger) and i ran 5 1000w XXXL hoods, worked great. Either make your room smaller or add more lights.

Idk your style of grow but I would suggest checking out vertical bare bulb setups since you have way more space then lighting so it would be all about maximizing your lights capacity. Invest in a decent can fan 6" 450cfm around 120$. Idk where you live but basements can become very wet depending on the enviroment, and whether or not your basement collects water. As im sure you know when it rains, water contacts the cement on the outside of your foundation, if you dont have proper drainage around your foundation, your cement absorbs that water and evaporates it into the air. There are ways you canseal your concrete, but the point is, run a good dehumidifier, if the enviroment is wet you will be supprized at the amount of water you can take out of the air.

Okay thanks for all the great input guys. I'm starting to get a clearer picture of how I want this to go now. Obviously more lighting is required to utilize the entire room. Humidity is not a problem for the most part, my neighborhood has very recent(meaning the neighborhood was built 4 years ago) storm drainage/sewage system so water run off into the foundation is minimal at best. However, I have no problem installing dehumidifiers if needed.

I've got 2 ideas that I'm toying with at the moment. One is divide the room in half, and utilize a 10x5 area, and the other is to still go with a 10x5 area, but with another divider wall, essentially creating 2 5x5 rooms, one for veg/cloning, the other for flowering.

My question at this point is which is going to give me the best yield results? I like the idea of a constant production setup (the 2 5x5 rooms), but I'm starting to wonder if I should just bite the bullet and go big. I'm use to getting close to .5 lbs per plant outside, and am curious what it will take to achieve those results indoors.
