How do you make your butter?

I have a ginger thread on here somewhere...couple of sweet recipes, and then the steps of my butter. Someone else suggested a couple different straining methods, but the croc pot is my FAV. ANd the GINGA.

I figure you use unsalted cause more cannabinoids would be able to dissolve into the butter? But recently I just been using iso extracts, really potent and not much weed taste

'Water cure' the weed before making the butter might fix the flavour. From what I've read, a water cure wrecks the weed flavour wise, but leaves it fully potent. Don't see why it would be different with trim.
I just made my first batch of cannabutter and it turned out really well.

I do have 1 question though - I read somewhere that if you don't like the huge weedy flavour of cooking with cannabutter, if you rinse the weed you are using with warm to hot water a few times until most of the green colour is gone when you rinse, that this can take away that huge weedy taste but doesn't majorly affect the potency of the butter?.

Can someone either confirm or squish this theory for me? :) Thanks!

Recipes generally call for unsalted butter so you can control your sodium. Also the salt acts as a preservative somewhat, so unsalted butter will be fresher. Loving your threads Yessica :)

Like growing, baking requires patience. 24 hour crockpot method seems to work best. Use a 3 temp. crockpot on the lowest setting, preferably one with a sealing lid.
You're trying to get THC to adhere to the butter, and salt gets in the way, hence the advice to use unsalted butter..
Get a potato ricer (google it) to get the rest of the butter out of the spent mash.
Enjoy!!

ic ic...I have always decarbed my product first, then add it with the butter to cook. Or rather, add the butter to my decarbed weed. I make mine in 13x9 pyrex atm. I clarify my butter in the crockpot then add it to the pyrex that I decarbed in.

I heard that you are NOT supposed to change your prescription of MMJ - which I am on.

BUT - in my package of meds (weeds), they have instructions on how to turn it into a salve or butter!

Pretty sweet actually!

This is in Canada though - may be different elsewhere. I know someone told me it was illegal to change your weeds from one form to another....I thought it sounded like a pretty silly rule...

oh my! I would be in trouble lol...I have never heard of that Yessica. Does that mean that you have to stick to like 1 strain, or one form of ingestion ie, smoking, eating, capsules?

I need to get that press!
I've always just used a Ziploc bag. Cut a small corner off the bottom of the bag, after straining put the cheese cloth filled with mash in the bag, put on a pair of gloves and squeeze as hard as ya can.

I think fumble mentioned something important that didn't get addressed directly. Like her, I also clarify my butter first when using butter for cannabis products. When you clarify your butter, you're removing the water and milk solids, leaving you with a higher concentration of butterfat. So where a pound of butter makes 2 cups normally, it would be less than 2 cups after clarifying(how much less really depends on the quality of the butter to begin with).
