Troopers find Ambler homebrew, marijuana grow, arrest 2
By MICHELLE THERIAULT BOOTS

Alaska State Troopers say they arrested two Ambler residents Friday after finding homebrew and a marijuana grow operation inside a home in the Northwest Alaska village.

A member of Kotzebue's Western Alaska Alcohol and Narcotics Team and a trooper went to Ambler after hearing reports of homebrew in the community, which bans the sale and importation of alcohol, troopers said.

"The investigation led to (the trooper) being able to get a search warrant for that particular house," said AST spokeswoman Beth Ipsen.

The trooper and investigator found "at least a gallon" of homebrew and a small marijuana grow, Ipsen said Sunday.

Charles Penn, 42, and Denise Williams, 29, both of Ambler, were arrested for manufacturing alcohol in a local option area.

They were taken to Kotzebue's jail.

Maybe I should have had you and koloco for my lawyers during my last bust a couple years ago. You could have told the judge he can't weigh them stems. Neither of you know jack about it unless you faced the music.

WASILLA — Investigators took down a marijuana growing operation in Wasilla, seizing 30 plants and charging their alleged owner with drug misconduct.

According to an AST press statement, the bust happened at 7:15 a.m., March 11 2014 at a home on Woodruff Loop. Alaska State Troopers showed up there with a warrant, indicating they had been investigating the place already.

The suspected owner of the plants, Barry Barnett, 51, of Wasilla, was jailed at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility.

You are allowed 1 oz. cured and 6 plants LEGALLY by the current state law. That doesnt mean the feds cant kick your door down and bust you anyhow.

As for the 24 plants, thats for the cultivation charge. Anything greater than 24, goes to the federal level.

To be real honest with you, if you are smart and doing things right you should never HAVE To worry about the 24 plant law. Dont have idiots for friends, dont let friends over to your grow house. Dont grow in your own house do it somewhere else. If you get caught over 24, the feds seize your house. The #1 thing that gets people busted is peoples mouth's. NO ONE NEEDS TO KNOW. SWIM has grown in places you'd never imagine possible, like a dorm room..... No one knew, no harm no foul.

Alaska's pot law is one of the most fucked up out there. Look at the medi card... oh heres a card, you can legally smoke but we wont allow depsensaries so you gotta grow it or buy off the street. Buying off the street, you are STILL commiting a crime.

Its better to just light one up, forget about the laws and stick to yourself.
Wrong over 25 is a felony over a hundred is federal!

The law reads "Less than 25 plants in residence".

Juneau woman, 60, gets 'deal of lifetime' in sentencing for 55 pot plants
JUNEAU, Alaska — A prosecutor said he was giving a Juneau woman the "deal of a lifetime" when she was sentenced for a misdemeanor instead of a felony after officials found 55 marijuana plants in her home.

Juneau District Attorney James Scott called the circumstances surrounding the prosecution of Bonnie E. Odom as a "one-off," the Juneau Empire reported.

If she had been convicted of a felony, she could have served up to five years in jail. Instead, she received a year of probation. Under Alaska law, it's legal to have 25 plants.

Odom didn't deny wrongdoing when she was sentenced last week.

"Pretty much everything that's said is true," she told Juneau District Court Judge Thomas Nave. "I can't deny much of anything ... That's really all I have to say. I did it."

Nave chuckled at her last comment, the Empire reported, and said he didn't see a need for rehabilitation in this case.

"I don't, frankly, in this case see the need for any of that," Nave said. "Technically, it's illegal because of the amount. I'm sure you'll adjust that in the future."

Her attorney, Kevin Higgins, said Odom is a Coast Guard veteran and 26-year employee of Bartlett Regional Hospital. She uses marijuana for medical purposes because she suffers from arthritis and insomnia.

Scott said he agreed to reduce the charge to a misdemeanor because Odom, 60, didn't have a criminal record and police only found out about the grow of 55 marijuana plants because of an unrelated incident, when a homeless couple she opened her home to were involved in a case of domestic violence when she wasn't home. When police arrested the man in November, he informed officials of Odom's marijuana grow operation.

"She did absolutely nothing herself offensive or bothersome to her neighbors that caused the police to be called," Scott said. "Her houseguests did. She shouldn't open up her home — I'll make a judgment statement — she shouldn't open up her house to people that will bring police there. Sadly, no good deed goes unpunished."

Enforcement usually doesn't start until around 4 ozs in your home. I know a ton of growers and none have been bothered. I fish with the Anchorage assistant DA and he hasn't filed charges on anyone for less that 1/4lb in their own home. It's definately a bizarre law but it is one that allows many of us to grow our own cannabis. If you aren't selling and aren't telling, there's no jailing.

Kenai gets busy in the summer for a couple of months. It's a great area to recreate. Good luck on your move.
It's funny up here how we all mingle. I have a couple of "law enforcement for the government dad's in my kids scout troop"

I'm finally able to select the exact equipment I want but the brands aren't here up here at the shops and grow stuff is heavy. (that's super off topic)

Yeah dude the only thing is on Amazon Instant Video new shit they want that money. Not to say every item on Amazon is on the Prime program but a ton of stuff is.
I bought last night a Bluelab Trucncheon 92$
a nice fan controller22$, small 4x8" Phresh filter(heavyish)78$
and indoor hum/temp dig monitor 10$.
All for free shipping. The stuff in town is the same brand filter because they don't have mountain air and I can't find a free shipping one. But about 201$ of stuff and it would have been more expensive in town with less selection even taking in account AmazonPrime not available products.

The real thing is if you prefer concentrates such as myself any dab item that isn't a rig or vape pen can be found online rather than the mega ripoff headshops in anchorage. You can see the exact same container,butane,ect... on ebay or amazon free shipping. Or on ebay you can get the always loved flat rate box from UsPs.

the $80 you spend on it actually pays for its self in the course of a year. I agree with hashman completely about how shit in town is price jacked... a 200 cfm 6" booster is 36.99 at Brandy's (here in anchorage) on amazon I got one for $18.74 and FREE SHIPPING because I'm a prime member... I order bulbs, ballasts, hoods, non-grow stuff, t-p, tooth paste, lotions, paper plates, toys and games for the kids... ANYTHING! And to top it off, I can stream "prime" video on any device... quit thinkin about it and do it!
