Chalk: Makeshift Dehumidifier?

Ok so I was at work wishing I was at home with a joint and I seen a handyman magazine that had a pamphlet with all these tips and tricks for the house.

It said to take a bundle of chalk and hang it from the ceiling in a closet to lower the humidity in the closet so clothes don't smell funky. Apparently the chalk absorbs the humidity.

Has anyone tried this with a small grow room? Or any room in general?

A much more efficient method of lowering RH in a similar fashion would be:

Far more efficient in removing humidity, though consumable.

The chalk would be far less efficient in reducing the RH at all in any space bigger then a shoebox I suspect. The amount of air being moved to cultivate cannabis makes chalk useless for RH reduction purposes I suspect.

Another way may be to use desiccant pillows. These are not the small sized ones you typically see, they are about a foot by four in dimension. Commonly used in shipping containers to keep humidity down. I had two of them in the backseat of my car when I lived in Washington to keep humidity down, worked great! They can be 'recharged' by heating the pillows at a few hundred degree for eight hours or so.

I don't know about for a grow room but I have used the same idea as the chalk in the basment only with a burlap bag filled with calcium cloride and it kept basement considerably drier you just have to replace it when it sucks up enough water to drip but With all the circulation of air in a grow room if it would have time to work. Now you got me thinking though. It may work pretty good if you pushed your intake air through it???
