Pictures would be great .. I
Chris, I use string and pull the branches down and tie them off to the root container (usually smart pots). LST(ing) is my favorite part of growing. I will upload pics soon.
Thanks pictures would be great .. I just fimmed them last night and there 9in tall. Going to scrog so maybe I should start some LST

Agree with Casper9. FIM and then LST. Basically I use gardening string and masking tape. This way I can easily adjust the tension as needed. I have also drilled holes around the top of my 5 gal bucket and looped zip ties through the holes... will provide an anchor as the plants grow outside the bucket.

All depends on how much room you have. Remember, they will have some big growth. Here is what I use as a general rule:

Here's some examples of screen settings for hps's. These are not exact settings. They are just a baseline idea. If you can get your lamp closer. Good for you. If you can't. Thats okay too. Dont worry. If you've got the right watts per footage they will produce.

150hps 10-12 inches
250hps 12-15 inches
400hps 16-20 inches
600hps 20+
1000hps 24+

hope this helps... keep us posted.

I poke holes around the upper rim of my smart pots and run string through the hole and around the branch to be controlled. I tie the string in bows, like a shoe, for easy adjusting later. Some strains I have had to adjust daily (DP, SLH, etc... for example) due to fast growth rate and/or stiffness of branches. To adjust, simply undo the bow by pulling each free end of string, adjust placement on branch (depending on how and where you want them) without relieving too much tension, pull tight (¡but not too tight!), and re-loop your bow. Boom, you've got a Sensai (Sinsemilla Bonsai).

My plants always untie the string from verticle growing if I use the bow method. I actually have to tie a loose knot in order to keep tension. All I ever do is lst always been scared to physically harm the plant

I’m running my first topping experiment this go around, LST is a lot of fun though, back breaking but fun

I don't do anything but scrog grows. Yield is tremendously better! I'd recommend topping. I've noticed cola size is smaller when you FIM.

I wrap mine 3 times instead of just one in step 1 of bow making. I haven't had one come undone yet, maybe that'll help.
