Seeds won't open?

So a buddy gave me some sativa and indica seeds and I germinated 5 of each. They all popped but the roots that developed did not get to long. Maybe just over 1/8" for the indica seeds and 1/4" for the sativas. So I decided to plant them anyways. Put about 1/4" into potting soil and all the sativas came up within a few days but only 1 of the indicas. Shell of the indica seed would not open to let the leaves out. So after 4 days I very gently used a couple pairs of tweezers to open it up. The leaves part had rotted. Dug away the dirt of the others and they seemed to be the same. Any ideas why or how I can help them come up and pop open?

You didnt germinate so the tap root was out good. also how far did you put them into the soil? i suggest getting root riot cubes they have the needed nutes to insure they will grow right for the first 10 days.

Thanks for the replies. I planted them the same depth as the sativa seeds. About 1/4". Can the damping off be just for the one type of seed? Gonna try and get some clones. But I like to play with the seeds. Put a couple non-germinated indica seeds into potting soil and gonna keep em moist and see if they come up.

yeah, fuck seeds... Clone the living fuck out of the indica you do have... Screw those other seeds. Not all seeds pop, or sprout, or drop the shell... fact of life. That's why most commercial growers use clones.

We are partial to the sativa so I would rather smoke that. Like the get up and go do stuff high. So hopefully a few of them purple sativas are females...:) Don't need to grow a lot, just some personal smoke. Will keep you posted on the other 2 seeds.

Depends where and what you buy. Non of my BCBD Purps from Attitude popped but all my AK47 did Nirvana is good at least direct MNS I have the most experience with and they always pop I've only ordered direct though but unlike most he will replace. Blue Sattelite Spice Of Life about 50%.

The duds from BCBD royaly pissed me off but I'd be a damn fool too just clone out my first seed selection is a must if you really want a chance too beat out the CO/CA guys my mother room is doing just that may not be better then OG but its better/equal then the shit getting mailed supposedly OG Kush and big names like that. But I don't hand out cuts this shit becomes legal I'll have some of the best that nobody else has I would never hand out my best cuts much like pineapple kush I think it was just cause I've been selecting the best for a few years I could do only seed runs and make plenty of money but selection is about my favorite thing too do I love trying all kinds of pheno's too find some down right amazing plants.

Aye god knows I've had it happen to me but not the rotten part just the husk of the seed stayed on for a few days I just left em and viola they popped off all by themselves...I like sprouting seeds in jiffy pellets now their perfect for it..whack em in a humidity dome and bobs yer uncle fannys yer aunt....then take clones and figure out which one you like best and keep it forever ;)

So I planted a couple of the indica seeds in potting soil and BAM, 4 days later they are up and healthy. Next year I will do the same with the purple sativa and indica seeds I have. No more germinating them.

if I may humbly suggest staying on topic, this isn't a cloning Vs. seed thread, I prefer clones, but who doesn't, it's waaaay easier, and faster, and more reliable, and more predictable, but EVERY strain came from a seed, don't forget that. Besides there is an element of excitement when making new strains, F1 hybrids are unstable but you can get special stuff that nobody has, and I think that's appealing to some people. Who wants to be average and have the same toys as everyone else?
Haven't you seen an average-looking couple that gets together and makes a beautiful kid? Evolution is an awesome thing. I've seen and grown frankentstein strains that are waaay more potent and healthy than their parents.

what does waiting till the root splits out of the seed hurt?

I've noticed that the longer you let the seed soak and taproot grow, the less likely it is the plant will sprout and grow normally. As soon as it cracks, plant it about 3/16"-1/4" down with the cracked end facing down. She should be stretching for daylight within 2 days.

Scuff em with fine sandpaper. Line a small box, like and Altoids can, with sandpaper and put em in an shake em up. Also soak em for 12-24 hour before planting.

No need for all this voodoo and fairy tales bro, get some root riot cubes or some of those peat pellets. Anyone who tells you those don't work shouldn't be growing. They are almost foolproof you wet the cubes put the seed directly in and viola.

Please stop making this harder on yourself by putting them in a cup of water or using sandpaper all that shit may work but as far as im concerned it is all tribal shit. I can produce 99% success rate with the root riots or peat pellets and you dont have to transfer this or that you just let them do what they are supposed to.

I agree with you Eye of Horus; this crap takes the BULLOCKS; Hell why defy nature by making this "shite" extreme, do
what Homes says; and while youre at it, to ensure 100 percent success put some actino in that lil hole and its a done
dada!!!
