exactly; smoke causes the stomata to close; for up to 24 hours! no tranpiration means no growth.
don't smoke in the same room as your plants.
now, if you have been doing so, and would like to help get things back on track, you can add potassium supplements. k encourages the actions of the stomata and respiration/transpiration.
