Depends. If watering is inconvenient, you could mulch it to help save your effort. Leave a little space between the mulch and the stalk.
Could aid in disguising the plant, I suppose . . . and then there's keeping the weeds at bay, if that's an issue? Depending on where you are, it may be wiser to allow the soil to heat up, which mulching too early delays.
