Default outdoor grow first time
Aright guys im just looking for a little advice on my first outdoor grow. im about to start and im just wondering about a few things

first off ive decided to go with pots. obviously im going to move the plant to bigger pots as it gets bigger but im wondering about the setup inside the pots. im using foxfarm soil which ive only heard great things about but im wondering if i need sand or rocks in the bottom. ive heard mixed reviews.

also im wondering if bugs/rodents will be a problem. from experienced people, if they are a problem what should i do to ensure that they arent a problem. Thanks for all the help. i am so stoked!

I don't put rocks at the bottom because they roots just get tangled up BUT you have to have good drainage.

As far as pests and rodents don't add smelly organics like fish ferts or blood meal. Animals will dig them up.

Your biggest threat is hunters

No sand is only good for drainage and doesn't add any nutrients but if you lack drainage then it is good.

In other words if you are digging up a very sandy spot then you would save some of this sand but just mix good soil compost etc to it to make it more suitable.

Just make sure your compost is properly done and not too ripe.
I prefer to purchase compost already made to make sure it is aged properly.

Default yes.
Yes most definitely. You should add good aged compost. Make sure it is aged and does not have a bad smell to it. Good compost should have a nice earthy smell to it if it is god to use. Or buy some.
I often add some perlite or an organic potting mix and depending on the location you may need to add lime and/or bonemeal.
If it is acidic like in a pine forest then I would add some lime and bonemeal. Just don't add smelly stuff like blood meal or fishy yuck stuff I usually throw in a armful of dried up dead leaves etc.
I would google how to make good soil or soil ammendments.
