Until you learn to deal with the enviroment and all the critters (especially them damn two legged ones), hiding and protecting is key. I ve had beavers destroy monster patches, rats strip the buds for the moisture, voles strip a 3" tall strip off around the bottom of the stalk and kill monsters, but it was all learning and adjusting , bullet proof now. Dig holes big enough to Bury 15 gallon buckets, throw broken glass and rocks in the hole first, set the buckets in,take 24"flashing camo paint it, cut it up so you can make 2' tall by 8" - 10" around tubes place in the center of the buckets so no voles or rabbits or rats can eat at your stalks, then make chicken wire cages around each set of two or three plants , then have a strong perimeter out of 4' - 5' tall chicken wire that you put in the year before and weaved all kinds of the native brush through, make sure you dig it in at least a foot into the ground also, use 1/4" wire or aviary wire to keep the critters from climbing through,I feed the surrounding brush as well as my plants to keep every thing lush in the area, as far as the pesky two legged varmints go, you have to be a master of hiding your entrances and exits, not be afraid to sandbelly into places where people in their right mind won't go. Love working at night and prepare your spots in the fall so the winter can overgrow them . Nothing like a full moon night in july or august going from spot to spot and looking at the beautiful women as they develop into what you know they would. As skywalker1 said unless you know what to do you wont make it through. It is a lot of hard dedicated work to pull it off. Like one salmon running up stream said to another "KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT AND YOU WONT GET CAUGHT"
A fun little trick to get of all the rats in the area, if you are into this kind of thing,i dont do it anymore , rats eat your dope for the moisture, nothing worries the little fuckers more than having to make a run to the stream to drink without becoming lunch to a hawk or an owl at night, so if you take a plastic drinking cup and fill it with water place it at one of the entrances of their rat hotels(they build monsters ones where I'm at)drop some nice rat poison pellets into the water cup and they will all be dead next time you come back.I quit doing this and moved on to the bullet proof cage method due to enviromental reasons. I just let my pitbulls ravage their nests now, and the little fuckers eventually leave.
