OKay so im gunna start my grow in a week or so, my spot is near a lake, just wondering, is it okay to give the plants the water from the lake? or bring my own tap water, thanks people

I need help man I got a plant growing by a lake it is noley 2 inches tall 3 or 4 branches with 3 leaves on each soooooooooooo wheen do I need to start topping |
