Default DIY Pop Bottle Drip Irrigation System

Using recycled materials you can make your own drip irrigation system for free.
The materials you will need are as follows:
  • 1. 2 litre plastic soda bottle or water bottle that still has the lid
    2. drill and small drill bit
    3. sharp knife
    4. cutting surface

Drill 4-8 small holes into the cap of the plastic bottle. If you want it to drip slower use less holes, faster use more holes. Don't make holes that are too small, they will become clogged up by debris. Remove the bottom of the bottle by cutting vertically across with a sharp knife. I find a serrated knife works well. Removing the bottom of the bottle creates a funnel for you to easily pour water into. The wide mouthed opening will also catch some water when it rains.
Dig a hole next to a plant or in between a grouping of plants that is deep enough to bury at least one third to one half of the bottle. If you position the bottle in amongst a grouping of plants it will be hidden from view. Place the bottle in the hole with the cap side down and secure it into the hole by pressing dirt around it. This will ensure that your bottle stays in place. Pour water into the bottle until it is full. You can add fertilizer to the bottle every few weeks so that your plants are fertilized right at the roots.

Anyone know of any other DIY drip irrigation sysytems??? I wanna cut down on the trips i have to make to my spots.. Once every two weeks would be great. This one seems like it owuld work but only for a few days......

hey i have a small modification to that for you. get some string, and tie a good sized knot in the end, thread it threw the hole so the knot blocks the hole. use longer strings and spread them out underground. this will slow the drip down, and wick water farther. roots will also grow right into the string for a constant water source. do this for tomato plants in buckets durring the summer. it isn't a substitution for a good watering but if your short on time this will give you a few extra days befor your ladies dry up.

I have a fast flowing creek right next to my area. What I do is take milk jugs cut in half and screw a water hose to the milk jug with an adapter from the hardware store. Place the jug and hose in the creek with the water flowing into the jug and the pressure delivers about a gallon a minute. I pinch the other end and take the hose and place it around the plants and drill holes in it where the plants are.. This sytem took me awhile to perfect but once you have it down it works great other than the occasional big storm that knock the hose out the boulders I use to hold it in place.

yea thats a good idea, there isnt a river close to my spot
i was thinking of gettin a barrel and making some kind of spouting to run rain water off into it. Then use hoses on the bottom and run them to my plants. I just don't know how to control the drip so they get enough water but not too much........

Default how to resolve this problem
heres how it goes you get a big barrel u can fill with water u take a hose attach it to the bottom of the barell then u want to get a water timer to attach to that hose that way u can have it so water can run out for a certain amount of time at a cretain time everyday there 4 u would ony have to go once every 2-3 weeks so from the water timer you would have another hose wich would be attached to a y splitter then from the y split u would have 2 hoses put a y split on the 2 hoses then you got 4 and so on and so on intill u got as many hoses as plants u can have a valvue at the end of each hose if u want to controll the amount of water that comes out but idk if necessary it would be good to have the barrel of water like 2-3 feet off the ground so there some pressure on the water timer so the valvue opens on time or have the barrel on top of a littel hill to have the hoses to run down the hill to the TREES!! U GET THIS CONCEPT??
